fun emo fact: I went on a date in Ottawa with a girl who freaked out that I knew who the Hotelier were, we bonded over shared emo loves, had what seemed to be a v nice time, and then I never saw her again until a few months later when she was out walking with some dude she was definitely dating. the end

**Quick VG emo listening update***
Saves The Day - good but i dont think i like the vocals
The Promise Ring - omg omg. I am so in love with this sound + vox. Weirdly they sound a bit like mid-late 90's Australian grunge & therefore I'm in heaven.

Yoni Loves Chocha (VegemiteGrrl), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 17:02 (seven years ago) link

Saves the Day vox will grow on you. trust.

Odysseus, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 17:25 (seven years ago) link

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 17:28 (seven years ago) link

the track sequencing, particularly on the back half, is tremendous

call all destroyer, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 17:30 (seven years ago) link

First DCFC I heard was the Photo Album, and it might be my least favorite of their pre-Plans records. And yet, because of the time in my life when I discovered it...

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 17:55 (seven years ago) link

can't believe it was only on 5/30 ballots!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 17:56 (seven years ago) link

Never listened to MCR because I always thought they were nu-metal or something. I guess I should?

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:00 (seven years ago) link

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:00 (seven years ago) link

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:03 (seven years ago) link

helena one of the best videos ever

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:03 (seven years ago) link

Damn. Why didn't anyone tell me?

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:04 (seven years ago) link

@ArchCarrier can't make it Friday but it's a good idea for sometime later!

MCR and I never gelled.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:04 (seven years ago) link

this album was my gateway into discovering that I was wrong to ignore mainstream emo

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:05 (seven years ago) link

I guess I have listened to this album before? "Helena" is super familiar.

THAC0 Pastorius (Tom Violence), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:05 (seven years ago) link

helena was EVERYWHERE. such a perfect belter

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:07 (seven years ago) link

i understand why they're maligned by serious music fans bc mcr is like the quintessential hot topic band but also the album is hot fire straight thru.

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:08 (seven years ago) link

also for new MCR converts do not sleep on Black Parade and particularly "Teenagers"

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:09 (seven years ago) link

Ghost Of You is my fav on here

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:09 (seven years ago) link

Does this mean Black Parade isn't going to place? That would be a shame.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:09 (seven years ago) link

i could be coy but honestly if it doesn't place it's not like we're coming back to it so get yr black parade comments out now imho

Mordy, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:10 (seven years ago) link

'Teenagers' is forever associated in my mind with the memory of tarantino telling zane lowe it was his favourite song at the time

devvvine, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:11 (seven years ago) link

picking my fav three cheers song is like..... impossible, but it's this one probably

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:11 (seven years ago) link

lol yeah I didn't mean to make it sound like I was asking you specifically, just general worrying/angst. such a great album, rare combo of ambition and execution xxp

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:12 (seven years ago) link

just every song on this album is BURSTING with melodies

the raindrops and drop tops of lived, earned experience (BradNelson), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:12 (seven years ago) link

"Thank you for the Venom" is so adorable, it always sounds like kiddie thrash to me (in a good way)

my fave is the closer, which I can never sit or stand still for

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:13 (seven years ago) link

kiddie thrash yessss

Lebro v. Wade (Spottie), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:13 (seven years ago) link

MCR was certainly not everywhere in my part of the world: only 'Na Na Na (Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na Na)' and 'Welcome to the Black Parade' ever hit the Dutch top 100, peaking at very respectable places 86 and 92.

ArchCarrier, Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:14 (seven years ago) link

lol "Na Na Na" is so fucking good

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 8 March 2017 18:14 (seven years ago) link
