Functionally, Chris Bachalo reminds me of that aesthetic (simultaneously visually interesting and kinda shit at communicating anything coherent).

ashley wood's design-ish stuff is sometimes like this, although his narrative stuff was never my thing

there's also someone whose design book i have whose name is on the tip of my tongue and i'm blanking. he did some invisibles covers, i think?

yeah, i can see rian hughes kinda fitting in here

i looked up some scans of old issues of deadline, the uk comic hughes worked on, but i think it was a bit too early to ride this wave
