yeah I agree with that, inasmuch as they need guests I'd prefer they bring in people from different segments of the left to provide some different angles of commentary

the thing is there *is* a kernel of interest there in terms of the futility of making fun of Trump, having to find new modes of comedy, etc but instead they...just made fun of Trump for an hour

Yeah, show's less than a year in, and even with the improvements, they still can get overwhelmed or over-awed at a guest. Sometimes this is okay, like with the Adam Curtis ep, and sometimes not.

will did ask the question though, it just didn't go anywhere.

and yeah I agree they should stick to having other journos and political ppl on rather than celebs- Heidecker is a miserable interview, very smug & aloof & not willing to give much.

Hideo Kojima would be a dream guest for Felix, I feel.

I like the Matt Karp ep and want to check out his book.

I think he also pops up on the post-election ep to help bag on people.

Heidecker is just not a terribly interesting interview imo (tho I like him a lot as a performer)

otm. i listened to "the Blob" ep (re the Iran deal/ foreign policy est generally) on the way to work this morning. not a laugh riot but still funny and really informative deep-dive with a knowledgeable and likeable guest.

though if they do go down this road there are certainly folks that would be preferable to Heidecker (of whom I am a fan btw)

i thought this episode was fine and that tim quite enjoyed it and was good natured enough

The Heidecker ep was pretty weak imo, otm about it just turning into an hour of making fun of trump (except for the Shapiro stuff which is always good). Ironically it's Matt of all of them who falls most into the trap of "OMG he's so dumb!" which makes him sound like the average liberal on facebook.

the pisspiggranddad interview was interesting but it was pretty weird how they didn't seem interested in following up on his 'lol we don't have child soldiers as long as you don't think 14-year-olds are children' comment

I'm having a hard time with the ppg interview - maybe I'm not ironic enough but the interesting topics are getting buried in Metal Gear jokes and lulz.

I'm starting to get a bit annoyed with the attention these dudes get. Even in relation to other podcasters, like Michael Brooks, the sidekick on the Majority Report, is ten funnier and smarter than these guys put together. Listening to them is like the taste of Mountain Dew on your tongue for an hour.

Well, that's the stylistic difference, isn't it? Majority Report is Sam Seder's show, so it would come down to how much you dig Adam Seder's stuff.

And there you go. These guys are just getting a lot of attention because they're both serving a function and offering seen as new and different to a lot of people. Similar to how Air America(incl Sam's show) got plenty of focus when they started broadcasting.

the hour-of-Mountain-Dew comparison is where I'm at too. these guys are just so deeply jaundiced about everything that it starts to drag on my soul listening to them for too long. I followed them on Twitter and then immediately unfollowed the most exhausting guy (I think Will?) and honestly I'm probably gonna cut the cord with the whole outfit before too long.
