are ANY 4MWB reissues decent? i've got a couple Cluster ones and a Scott 4 and it's been awhile since I pulled them out. i don't remember anything egregious but it could be one of those things where if i heard a proper remastering and pressing job it would be like night and day.

the tim buckley reissues i used to have were pretty good from memory & big star's third sounded great. the john fahey america fiasco made me super wary about their product but still pick certain things up if i see them going cheap.

yeah that Big Star one is good. as I said (I think) on the other thread nomar is remembering, you basically have to look for the words "remastered from the original analog tapes" or some such when considering a vinyl reissue these days, otherwise u can assume it was straight from CD.

did not know about any issues with Fahey's America, I have the Fahey 6LP box on 4MWB but it does not sound appreciably better than the originals I have (just cleaner), and there are a few (like, 3-4) nasty pressing flaw (I assume) glitches for like tenths of a second over 6 LPs, not perfect but OK.

main thing with america was they copied it directly from the expanded cd version including the shortened version of mark 1:15 that was cut so everything would fit on the one cd. also remember reports that some copies of the second lp consisted of side 1 being pressed on both sides (first thing i checked for when i got mine!)... also major scuffs :-/

mention of glitches reminds me: their reissue of anne briggs' first album is atrocious.

there's this other label 1972, which reissued some Stereolab LPs a couple years back, among other reissues like the Aphex Twin ones. stereolab hates these reissues and is still trying to work at their own reissue series. not sure if they're affiliated with 4MWB et al, but they seem to be another dodgy CD sourced crew.

four years pass...

what is going on with this Garth Brooks "Legacy" 7xLP boxset? apparently Amazon was selling them for like $25 before jacking up the price to $60...you can still get them from resellers for $30-35. There must've been a million copies of this thing printed. It probably has singlehandedly set new vinyl releases back 6 months. Do I like Garth enough to pick this up myself?

He's obsessed with selling more physical copies of releases than anyone in history.

Next, he'll sell a box of all his records remixed to mono, plus each album on 8-track cassette.
