What essential tracks--if any--are missing from this collection, for those of us without a spare $500 to collect all six volumes?

"sausalito" is rad correlations style funk rock
"schwerer dino" is superb spacey slow burner
full 20+ minute "deep distance" take is good
same with longass "shuttle cock" take
"soiree academique" is epic spacey noisy jammage
full length "lotus" is good

Thanks! Will check these out today. I'm in a mood.

Why did no one tell me Correlations sounds like a prototype for The Division Bell?
― Paul Ponzi, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 14:15 (five years ago) link
glad I have these on MP3 but it is very frustrating that they remain out of print as CDs.
― sleeve, Tuesday, 27 November 2018 15:23 (five years ago) link
(xp) Because they didn't want to discourage from listening to Manuel Gottsching's music?
― Monica Kindle (Tom D.), Tuesday, 27 November 2018 15:47 (five years ago) link
somebody pleeeeeeeaze reissue these
― sleeve, Tuesday, 19 May 2020 22:36 (three years ago) link
fucking hell i never even knew about "correlations" - and there's a five cd box set of recording sessions for it? this is my jam for sure, top notch disco shit, i like this _way_ better than tgottsching's ambient stuff
― Kate (rushomancy), Tuesday, 19 May 2020 23:28 (three years ago) link
it's so fucking good, enjoy

pretty great so far

one of my all-time fav tunes is "77 slightly delayed" which i've found leads into a disappointing album experience w/ "blackouts" since it's all downhill from there imo
any suggestions of where to find this magic elsewhere in the ashra / MG catalog ?
― budo jeru, Tuesday, 19 May 2020 23:51 (three years ago) link
I'd suggest New Age of Earth but I love all of Blackouts so that that as you will
Was hoping this revive would be an announcement of Private Tapes reissues. Of course when they do that it'll be something stupid like 7xLP vinyl deluxe box sets
― Paul Ponzi, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 00:04 (three years ago) link
sadly true, also they'd split the long tracks between LP sides which I can't stand either
brimstead called it upthread with "Deep Distance", "Shuttle Cock", and "Lotus"
― sleeve, Wednesday, 20 May 2020 00:10 (three years ago) link
for the record i gave a quick listen to the box and here's my picks:
begleitmusikdeep distancele bruit des originesultramarinehausaufgabe
live stuff from the disco band is kinda disappointing to me tbh

These are all great choices but - call me a philistine - I wish he'd broken up "begleitmusik" into discrete tracks. There are some beautiful pillowy floating drones in the middle but I don't always have the patience to find them inside the 25 minute piece (which, as far as I can tell, is pretty randomly assembled rather than being an actual suite of related tracks). I don't remember if there are others like this, should revisit, but that one sticks out

I much prefer his ambient work. I recently listened to the first 4 Ashra albums and made this very satisfying playlist:
Sunrain (New Age Of Earth)Ocean Of Tenderness (New Age Of Earth)Deep Distance (New Age Of Earth)77 Slightly Delayed (Blackouts)Midnight On Mars (Blackouts)Shuttle Cocks (Blackouts)Ice Train (Correlations)Oasis (Correlations)Morgana Da Capo (Correlations)Kazoo (Belle Alliance)

Confirmed by a Berlin radio station just now:

Looks like the station is going to devote their Sunday evening Elektro beats programme to celebrating Göttsching's work.

I would like to shout out le berceau de crystal soundtrack from 1976, really beautiful stuff, maybe kind of reminiscent of some roedelius?

Well I guess whoever is in charge of Gottsching’s estate has gotten their affairs in order because the major ART/solo/Ashra albums are on streaming sites now.
