c'mon milo, you should only need 'liberal'! i guess in america, 'liberal' still means 'fucking conservative, but we probably need a better healthcare system'.

i've never had irl consequences from my public facebook profile, although i HAVE had (well-publicised) irl repercussions from ilx...

yeah, with regards 'rolling out', it seems you've been in cambridge all this time and never suggested a mini-FAP. i'm disappointed, nay, heartbroken. sadly, i'm now back in london. maybe next year. tissp can come along too!

something which people should learn: just because a box is there does not mean you actually have to fill it in

lex pretend, Thursday, 28 June 2007 22:01 (sixteen years ago) link

sorry jiggaman, i've been keeping things covert recently, hence facebook 'issues'. i filled out the box while it was still students early and didn't think of it again till a few months ago when i happened to check my student emails...

Yeah I didn't realise this when I signed up and filled in all the fields, I would have just left religion etc blank but I thought it was compulsory.

My father freaked out a bit when my sister reported to him that I'd changed my religion from "A great record can save yr soul" to "Zen Buddhism."

i think the 'social networking for non-internet people' meme is right. facebook is down right now -- classic friday afternoon slacking syndrome. and i was just about to drop blue steel :(

signed up yesterday and now it's down. not a good start people.

I can't say I'm a fan of the political alignment choices either -- I ended up picking 'other' because nothing really exists that matches my general outlook (and thus a metaphor for my view vis-a-vis the two-party system as a whole, etc.)

A friend of mine is bent out of shape that there's no "marital status = widowed". I think she has a point. What should she write: "It's complicated with my husband dead and all"?

Nubbelverbrennung, Friday, 29 June 2007 19:26 (sixteen years ago) link

I just learned that one of the founders of Facebook is a fan of my band. We're listed in his profile. Weird.

best error message I ever got was while searching was down; something to the effect of "We're sorry, this function is temporarily unavailable. Please try your search again in a little while, or right now."

bernard snowy, Saturday, 30 June 2007 14:14 (sixteen years ago) link

ah, i never did reply to this thread. my computer's only letting me access ilx every three of four days atm, which seems a slightly harsh rate of censorship. i'll be gone all of next week too. aren't you lucky?

the vast flood of ilxors adding me as a friend is still only a steady trickle. c'mon! it's not like you don't know my name (and I'm still, to my knowledge, the only one on F-book, not that this isn't a cue for passantino to create a fake-LJ with amusing political views/sexual proclivities)...

Just got offed, Sunday, 1 July 2007 00:25 (sixteen years ago) link

Only a few ILXors have friended me. You know you can friend them yourself if all else fails.

Curt1s Stephens, Sunday, 1 July 2007 00:27 (sixteen years ago) link

All but one of my friends are from ILX. I should get out some more. Or my real-life non-ILX friends should get on teh interwebs more.

ive just joined farcebook and found it a bit weird. kinda interesting to see where old school friends are and have them poke and add you and all that but kinda creepy all the same and theres certain schoolmates who i really dont wanna see ever again but you cant help it as theyre friends with other people you know. its also a bit farcical i think, lots of people have added me just for the sake of adding (and well prob vice versa), not for any other real reason. seems a bit pointless. im going to use it for networking with people ive never met in my life anyway.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 2 July 2007 11:51 (sixteen years ago) link

I have the same problem. All these people I'd happily left long behind certainly emerging from the woodwork, applying to be your "friend". Have we spoken in 5+ years? Are you likely to ever again make any attempt to contact me? Then wwe're not really friends are we? Better to be selective I reckon.
