iPad version is the bomb

Did the font change recently?
― Mordy, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 01:09 (seven years ago) link
I can't turn my font into a heart. So I am going to say no.
― Michael F Gill, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 01:55 (seven years ago) link
I changed the serif font on the last release because the old one looked a bit mish on iPad; the standard font is the Apple default one, and that changed from Helvetica to San Francisco with iOS 10, perhaps you saw one of those two?
― stet, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 11:34 (seven years ago) link
it looks ok, i just noticed it looked different
― Mordy, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 16:36 (seven years ago) link
Just switched to dynamic font and loving it.

Spotify - anyone heard of it?^won't load on Zing Touch since yesterday. Maybe to do with some faulty links that've been pasted in there?
― willem, Tuesday, 31 January 2017 08:46 (seven years ago) link
thanks, got it
― stet, Tuesday, 31 January 2017 10:48 (seven years ago) link
Same for me. I just switched to Apple Music so I don't have to read the thread anymore.

Is there a reason Zing doesn't show the poster's name? I know that takes up space but it's kind of an important part
― Screamin' Jay Gould (The Yellow Kid), Wednesday, 3 May 2017 01:51 (six years ago) link
It does, above the post. Or do you mean something else?
― stet, Wednesday, 3 May 2017 06:55 (six years ago) link
Oh, maybe this is a Zing vs Zing Lite thing? Using Zing Lite if I read a thread it shows the messages but not any post info like who posted it. You have to click each message to see that stuff.
― Screamin' Jay Gould (The Yellow Kid), Wednesday, 3 May 2017 11:39 (six years ago) link
Ah, yeah Zing Lite is pretty old and busted, sorry. If you're on a newer iOS (which would cause the username to hide), proper Zing is a *lot* better.
― stet, Wednesday, 3 May 2017 11:41 (six years ago) link
It is totally worth $2.99.
― Madchen, Wednesday, 3 May 2017 14:10 (six years ago) link
i just discovered the "block poster" button :D

I'm now getting only one xpost pop up much more often. Server side fix?
― El Tomboto, Friday, 26 May 2017 11:46 (six years ago) link
i had it 26 times in a row the other day

It drives me bloody nuts. I know what it is but it's hard to fix. I will have another attempt this weekend
― stet, Friday, 26 May 2017 12:23 (six years ago) link
You can avoid it you killing Zing and restarting. It's related to how many times a thread has been reloaded
― stet, Friday, 26 May 2017 12:24 (six years ago) link
forgot to mention that's how i stopped it at that point, thanks for mentioning it though

New version rolling out to App Store now. Not many changes, but:- now uses https by default- supports twitter embeds- goes back to the right place in the thread after looking at a specific post. - faster startup
Note: this version has to update saved accounts the first time it runs. I've tried to make this reliable but it might fuck up. If it does, delete your account and re-add it
― stet, Friday, 2 June 2017 14:53 (six years ago) link
- supports twitter embeds
awesome, thx stet

Bookmarks and posting is disabled on zing for me for some reason, it just stopped working one day. i deleted and reinstalled, logged in again, and it's still not functioning. ideas? Yes, my OS is out of date but that is not going to change today because I am going out of town tomorrow. Just wondering if there is an easy fix for this VERY important problem. How will I keep up with ILX on the road?!?!?! :)

It's crashing a lot for me lately, not sure I can identify any particular condition except maybe it's because of links?
― droit au butt (Euler), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 17:02 (six years ago) link
Which Zing are you both on? Blue-hat Zing is unfortunately pretty much dead at this point (because of the switch to https) and will behave like you describe. I should really take it off the store.
― stet, Tuesday, 13 June 2017 17:13 (six years ago) link
i have red hat zing
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 17:30 (six years ago) link
error messages when i try to post read "it is a mystery"
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 17:31 (six years ago) link
also i think it kicked me off 77? Show all boards doesn't include 77 borad
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 17:32 (six years ago) link
That means it's not logging in properly after thinking it has. Try:1. Delete and reinstall from App Store2. While setting up yr account, set the server to "ilxor.com"
― stet, Tuesday, 13 June 2017 17:35 (six years ago) link
okdid thatit doesn't look any different but maybe that's because i have no active bookmarks atm
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 17:40 (six years ago) link
77 still not there
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 17:41 (six years ago) link
yeah it still won't let me post
― weird woman in a bar (La Lechera), Tuesday, 13 June 2017 17:42 (six years ago) link
Can you screenshot yr account setting screen and send it to me pls? Stet at ilxor

Red hat zing for me too

I have a theory about the crosspost bug. Whenever I try to connect and I've lost the signal (i.e., on the metro) I also frequently get multiple notices. This suggests the bug is in the UIAlertView code or whatever? Just a thought.

― El Tomboto, Friday, 14 July 2017 13:37 (six years ago) link
Think I've figured out where it is. The way posting an answer works is the Thread object talks to the networking bit to submit the post. It then checks the result, and if there's an xpost it fires off a notification to any interested parties to tell them.
What is meant to happen then is that the view controller for the thread is supposed to hear a notification, check if it's for a thread it cares about, and show an alert if so.
But it seems like old thread view controllers (eg from previous times you have viewed a thread) are hanging around when they should have been destroyed, and they're also hearing the notification and firing off alerts.
It seems like it should be easier than it is to make sure the old view controllers are destroyed, but for some reason I don't yet understand they're not going away properly. Ugh.
― stet, Friday, 14 July 2017 14:00 (six years ago) link
Oh okay. But why the spamming of alerts when I don't have a network connection?
― El Tomboto, Friday, 14 July 2017 14:08 (six years ago) link
Same story, different notification (a "network down" notification they all respond to rather than an "failed to post why because xpost" one)
― stet, Friday, 14 July 2017 16:09 (six years ago) link
aha
