i forgot that the lulu precovers comp had the added challenge that we also had to match the track times of the actual album, brilliant

I kind of wish we had a Bandcamp page for all of this, not necessarily to sell but to give a streaming location

or spotify (but I suppose they only have things that are on a label) !

yeah, I think that was the funniest to do due to that constraint (and the crazy length of most of the original tracks) !

The Lulu project is easily my favorite of them all, not that there weren't other great ones. But that was a perfect moment and a half.

haha yeah; this is why my contribution to that is effectively two separate songs welded together that is a strong ripoff in build and structure of "Insomnia" by Faithless

I did my Bowie one to that constraint, even though I know most people didn't.

My faves are Lulu and the Sciento_Ogy one. A classic year for ilx comps.

For overall quality, I still think Vol3 "has a bucket" is a good starting place, but Lulu is .

Mark G, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 17:46 (seven years ago) link

Oh lol, I totally forgot about ENGLANDE.

emil.y, Tuesday, 24 January 2017 17:52 (seven years ago) link

There should be an (online) ILX festival with all these : ILXapalooza !

AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 25 January 2017 10:41 (seven years ago) link

There was one, it was linked to Vol 3.

Mark G, Thursday, 26 January 2017 19:25 (seven years ago) link

And now, I can locate them on my Discogs Collection!

Mark G, Friday, 27 January 2017 22:49 (seven years ago) link

This one?

How good is A.I. at creating chart hits? Trained a neural network (in Torch) on the history of the UK charts and let it come up with its own Top 40. Good to see a mix of genres. #aitop40 pic.twitter.com/hJLdWmbssz

majority whip, majority nae nae (m bison), Sunday, 15 March 2020 18:52 (four years ago) link

but not the ai shit, just a playlist of our songs

majority whip, majority nae nae (m bison), Sunday, 15 March 2020 18:53 (four years ago) link

i think the idea was that we would make our own songs but our artist/song names had to be from that list

either that or pandemic-themed

idk

strangely hookworm but they manage ream shoegaze poetry (imago), Sunday, 15 March 2020 19:15 (four years ago) link

i am favouring a pandemic theme myself but you are all free to argue the toss

'bat love' would be on both themes tbf

strangely hookworm but they manage ream shoegaze poetry (imago), Sunday, 15 March 2020 19:17 (four years ago) link

I am in, with whatever conceit you guys decide to go with.

Maresn3st, Sunday, 15 March 2020 19:44 (four years ago) link

pandemic theme 4 sure

majority whip, majority nae nae (m bison), Sunday, 15 March 2020 19:46 (four years ago) link

Songs of our own devising or cover tunes with apt titles?

Maresn3st, Sunday, 15 March 2020 19:50 (four years ago) link

songs of our own imo

majority whip, majority nae nae (m bison), Sunday, 15 March 2020 19:52 (four years ago) link

in whatever, but would be better were there an overarching concept to at least name the tracks

Wuhan!! Got You All in Check (Camaraderie at Arms Length), Sunday, 15 March 2020 20:06 (four years ago) link

that concept, is COVID

strangely hookworm but they manage ream shoegaze poetry (imago), Sunday, 15 March 2020 20:08 (four years ago) link

I'm in, although the COVID theme may be a little tenuous as it'll probably be instrumental.

strangely hookworm but they manage ream shoegaze poetry (imago), Sunday, 15 March 2020 20:48 (four years ago) link

Testing

Mark G, Monday, 16 March 2020 09:18 (four years ago) link

I'm in for a song, whatever the concept (but maybe it would be more timely to make a specific virus/epidemic related comp ?).
Gotta find something to do since I'm stuck at home for at least 2 weeks !

i had thought the new magnetic fields album would be a good contender for a pre-covers compilation, aside from having to get 28 people to sign up:

01 Castles of America
02 The Biggest Tits in History
03 The Day the Politicians Died
04 Castle Down a Dirt Road
05 Bathroom Quickie
06 My Stupid Boyfriend
07 Love Gone Wrong
08 Favorite Bar
09 Kill a Man a Week
10 Kraftwerk in a Blackout
11 When She Plays the Toy Piano
12 Death Pact (Let’s Make A)
13 I’ve Got a Date with Jesus
14 Come, Life, Shaker Life!
15 (I Want to Join A) Biker Gang
16 Rock ‘n’ Roll Guy
17 You’ve Got a Friend in Beelzebub
18 Let’s Get Drunk Again (And Get Divorced)
19 The Best Cup of Coffee in Tennessee
20 When the Brat Upstairs Got a Drum Kit
21 The Price You Pay
22 The Boy in the Corner
23 Song of the Ant
24 I Wish I Had Fangs and a Tail
25 Evil Rhythm
26 She Says Hello
27 The Little Robot Girl
28 I Wish I Were a Prostitute Again

pre-emptively calling dibs on "Kraftwerk in a Blackout"

Elvis Telecom, Monday, 16 March 2020 20:52 (four years ago) link

Is there a theme for this, or can it be whatever we want? Because I already wrote lyrics for 'For The Sour' from the AI Top 40.

ILX Compilation 7: COUGH PILL NATION - Deadline for submissions is probably mid-April or so

You can import lyrics and ideas from other mooted projects, yes
