i feel like if you make a huge self-important statement about 'fighting like fuck' and then the best you can do to follow up is dribble out some tepid garbage about starting a band then you deserve to be clowned relentlessly from sea to shining sea

Let's make a game about starting a band!

i think it's natural/honest for publications to reflect the conflicted/half-arsed/quasi-engaged approach to politics that the majority of their readers/ppl have, demanding consistency is nonsense

pretty cool of them to post an interview with uber-woke intersectional activist Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue

https://noisey.vice.com/en_us/article/at-the-end-of-the-world-with-nikki-sixx

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 24 January 2017 22:39 (seven years ago) link

At one point I ask Nikki Sixx what he would do if he had to live a completely different life. "My ultimate goal is to be a homeless street artist," Sixx says sarcastically as he gets out of the car. Before I can ask what he means, he gets pulled away, and disappears.

tbf he probably meant something very profound about fighting like fuck

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Tuesday, 24 January 2017 22:51 (seven years ago) link

I guess "fire that fuck" is a reasonable variation

fight like fuck with an interview wholly concerned with promoting a Vice TV show about two "prankster" musicians whose sole contribution to anything appears to be calling themselves Nirvanna the Band and existing as flotsam in the Toronto music scene.

Local hero. What makes Dan Burke Dan Burke?
Matt: Well, he's willing to fight for what's right, literally.

Jay: I also think there isn't a single young starting-up band in Toronto that doesn't cross paths with Dan Burke.

Matt: Dan Burke has been doing it for so long, that he's just, like cut, like he's like a leather piece of...

Jared: Toronto music.

Matt: He is! There's no bullshit with him. There's a video of it online, but the story is one time a band wouldn't leave the stage. They had gone over their allotted time, and the next band was starting to set up, but the other band wouldn't stop playing, and so Dan Burke punched one of the guys and then they started a huge fight. You can see this video on YouTube. Search up"Dan Burke fight." And then the bass player from the band breaks his bass over Dan Burke's head. You just think, "Jesus, Burke, you're a..." Anyway, he, he's not fucking around.

viva la resistance!

The whole idea behind Hater was actually a joke, according to CEO Brendan Alper. He told the Cut that he thought of the app while thinking of sketch ideas, after he quit his job at Goldman Sachs to become a comedy writer.

We're going to fight like fuck to provide an outlet to artists and writers of color, to writers who are women, who are immigrants, who are Muslim, who are working class, and who are members of the LGBTQIA community

Let's get into the new album. Talk about what went into this lyrically first. You mentioned writing pseudo-political songs, was there a political element to this album?

Cuomo: Yeah, there's like a little current events stuff, a little. It's very, like all the songs are very... material. It's not so autobiographical. There's a lot of like, made up shit. There's like random stories and stuff and a lot of fiction. Some stuff that was going on at the time. The material lyrically and stuff is a lot different from each other.

Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 29 March 2017 23:32 (seven years ago) link

It's funny, every time I think people could not be any less interested in nu-metal in 2017, I come across someone who is really into Korn or Papa Roach or something and is continuing to follow 'em. It surprises me because even at the time I thought it'd be a passing fad that would be over within a few years and it wasn't surprised at all when that turned out to be the case, but also because I never expected the appeal of these bands to last beyond people's teenage years.

The Roger Waters Experience (Turrican), Thursday, 30 March 2017 01:44 (seven years ago) link

Papa Roach AFAIC passed into cool territory the other day with their Twitter responses to the fake Paul Ryan story after the failed health care vote. Couldn't give a care for their music but they're obviously in the right place headspace-wise.

Korn's impact on metal I can acknowledge without thinking anything more about them.
