I have just been listening to that Senyawa album from late last year, I think. It is totally out there world music drone type gear with some marvellous Tibetan throat style chanting vocals.

Man. The new Julie Byrne album just knocks me off my feet, every time. Whispery folky singer-songwriter so good I've not heard since the last great albums by Julie Doiron or Laura Veirs ~ and both have been a while. So stark, so gorgeous.

Have you heard Julie Byrne's live cover of Photobooth by Death Cab? She takes it to another level... there's something about her performances which really gets to me and I usually hate that emo lyrics + folk guitar combo.

She recently showed up on my release radar, enjoyed it but couldn't figure out if it was the kind of singer songwriter material the world has plenty of already

Julie Byrne's "Prism Song" was one of my favourites from 2014, so cool to be reminded me of her now. Will need to check the album out :)

I like her but I wouldn't say she's something else, I'm just a sucker for that kind of stuff (Alela Diane, Marissa Nadler etc.). I prefer Rooms With Walls and Windows but this one is solid too.

I'm not much into emo lyrics but her singing is very genuine so I'll buy in... also she's such a good guitar player! I'm yet to hear a live performance of her where she doesn't have a great tone on her guitar.

Tears On Fire sounds like a merger of Wicker-Man style folk with Air. It works, I think.

Girls In Airports are one of the most underrated bands int he world today and they released a fantastic live album this year

Probably not going to nominate this for our poll, but Maryam Saleh, Maurice Louca, and Tamer Abu Ghazaleh's Lekhfa is worth a listen. Arab indie. I think I'm missing a lot in this case by not being able to understand the words.
