Grasping defeat out of the jaws of victory - the 2016 Browns story.

So we're 2 QBs down. Crabtree is emergency backup for Cook. And if Crabtree gets injured: we get in the bus & go home

outcome of the games today seems irrelevant for the raiders at this point, they're going to get to play a playoff game either way.

Roberto Spiralli, Sunday, 1 January 2017 23:25 (seven years ago) link

we're going to the playoffs in a burning car, it's fine

somebody stop them in the playoffs

FREE BRADY (daria-g), Monday, 2 January 2017 01:10 (seven years ago) link

Kubiak's health is kind of shaky, he apparently had a couple 'mini-strokes' last year along with whatever went down a couple weeks ago. Nothing really else to prove, so in this case, I can't blame him for walking away.

earlnash, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:06 (seven years ago) link

Beyond all that, Denver is a headcase coaching job until they have at least a middling QB. Best defense and skills guys can't win unless you got a passable QB and they were not able to run the ball this year.

earlnash, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:10 (seven years ago) link

the job does have a little bit of poisoned chalice feel to it, especially with the defense players starting to rag on the offense as the season feel apart. would be a horrible job for a first time nfl head coach but who else is out there? would be p funny if they rehired josh mcd but he seems like a reasonable option.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/news/vikings-qb-sam-bradford-actually-set-a-pretty-impressive-all-time-passing-mark-210407535.html

It is interesting for all the sturm and drang about Bradford that really in some ways, it was a bit more than him in why the Vikings were mediocre.

earlnash, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:15 (seven years ago) link

I'd figure Wade Phillips might be the sacrificial two year goat for Denver. They could bring in Romo and have a reunion!

Got to figure that cameo today by Romo was a bit of trade baiting.

earlnash, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:16 (seven years ago) link

wade is a great call. he has a p good life right now, i hope for his sake it isn't him.

bradford was absolutely not the reason the vikes struggled. actually a pretty good qb to have with no o-lone or run game. but still don't think it was a good trade with what they gave up.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:18 (seven years ago) link

mike mccoy fired, has denver history of course but surely 0% chance they go there, presumably he rehabilitates with an oc stint. dude is 44 and looks like he is 60 now.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:21 (seven years ago) link

norv turner is a bright young offensive mind who deserves another shot

mookieproof, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:24 (seven years ago) link

denver's defense is going to be a shell of itself within two years, i wouldn't go near that job.

respect to kubes btw, i never thought he would get a team over the hump and he totally proved me wrong. seems classy too.

call all destroyer, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:27 (seven years ago) link

I don't know, the Vikings got Bradford and maybe another year of Teddy to heal, as they said it was probably a 2 year recovery. Either way, they don't have to draft for a QB - which is something a bunch of clubs wish they didn't have to do, some for the 2nd or 3rd time in a couple years.

You look at a team like the Texans, which have had multiple good drafts over the years with top notch players on both sides of the ball, but other than kinda Matt Schaub (at points) have not had a really good QB. You put a top notch QB on that club the past decade and they were stacked to win titles. They still won quite a few games, but just enough to get in and that's that. I think Kubiak was a decent coach even in Houston, dude was also the O-coordinator on those Shanahan Broncos teams that were good too.

Your team don't have a top tier QB, you are kinda screwed. How bad do you think some of these middling Saints or Chargers teams would have been without Rivers or Brees?

"norv turner is a bright young offensive mind who deserves another shot" -- The Bears have an opening!

I got to think that tantrum and walking out earlier this year was Norv Turner having his Sgt. Hulka moment and saying "I'm getting too old for this BS!"

earlnash, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:28 (seven years ago) link

seems like the kind of job where you need to have been elway's buddy for decades; not sure who fits that description besides kubiak

mookieproof, Monday, 2 January 2017 02:30 (seven years ago) link

The stakes could hardly be higher: The winner of Green Bay-Detroit claims the NFC North title and hosts the Giants, the loser travels to Seattle.

i can imagine higher stakes pretty easily tbh

“I don’t agree with what he’s done,” Theismann said on “Outnumbered.” “As a matter of fact, the American flag…stands for the right to be able to do the things you wanna do, to be able to stand up and have a difference of opinion. I agree with that part of it, but not when you’re on the job.”

Joe, stick to broadcasting. Actually, no, don't.
