seven months pass...

Infuriatingly, this prompt, when I'm stepping away from the desk for lunch

http://cwtuning.com/imgs/ImageTips/eng/Win_7/DisableLockWorkstation.png

gets mashed up with "Rock This Town" by the Stray Cats: "We're gonna lock this computer/lock it inside out/etc."

Whenever I see the words Pop Secret, I always prefix them with a 'gimme gimme' in my head.

My mom was visiting and made one of her old standby vegetarian recipes. Once again I found myself singing "couscous tacos" to the tune of "Zoot Suit Riot."

lol @ "gimme gimme pop secret"

pretty firmly linked to Arrested Development in my mind but that's great

I now have the phrase "take a knee" going through my head to the tune of "take on me" and I need it to stop.

Kind of the reverse of this scenario, but a thing that's been happening a lot lately is 1) I hear a two-syllable word or phrase, 2) I then sing '(two-syllable word/phrase), baby (two-syllable word/phrase)' to the tune of 'Love Shack'. Like I say, this is happening a lot. Maybe I should see a neurologist.

It's been almost nine years since this thread started, and the sight of a midget now always prompts "girlfriend in a coma" -- the other day it was "Midget with a Smoothie" (this was a different midget than the previous years' midget with a trashbag)

sarahell, Thursday, 5 October 2017 18:48 (six years ago) link

sarahell is in my brain, as this is pretty much me 900% of the time. I am an amateur collector of phrases that can be sung to the tune of "Girlfriend in a Coma."

When my children were babies it was "baby in a diaper I know, I know, it's serious."

Recent other examples:

Gerbil with a carrot I know, I know...

Penguin in the men's room...

Robot with a migraine...

Ninja with some hummus...

Often when I get myself some green tea, I'm getting it with Greensleeves playing in my head. It's best whenever it's the Leonard Cohen version.

And if I have anything with old cheese (slice, salad, whatever), it tends to go on Simon & Garfunkel's Old Friends. "Old cheese. Old cheese. Great on a toast made of fine wheats." or similar.

At some point, I started hearing Iggy's shouted chorus in 'Down in the Street' as 'DEWALT! DEWALT!' and now my brain always tries to turn the song into a commercial for power tools.

Winky Carrothers (Old Lunch), Wednesday, 1 November 2017 12:10 (six years ago) link

Or I guess I should say, for the purposes of this thread, that I always find myself singing 'Down in the Street' when I use my drill.

When I use my drill I invariably sing "I... found... my... DRILL, on Blueberry Hill."

― Whiney G. Weingarten, Sunday, January 11, 2009 9:17 AM (eight years ago)

My drill is a Makita, so I sing, Makita, Miyagi, ooh i'm gonna drill ya ... to the tune of Kokomo

At work a few years back we were ordering a lot of Wagamama’s when working late. To this day, their Amai Udon makes me go “amai udon - amai - amai udon” to the bridge melody of Livin’ Joy’s Dreamer.

Getting a rental car at the Denver airport today, there were four traffic islands between lanes where you had to wait for shuttle buses, labeled island 1-4.

I’ve had “island number three, that is what we are” in my head since.
