I'm a little embarrassed by how long I laughed at this.

let me tell you something about cake: i want 5 (not four) cakes for this Christmas

because at Christmas, you eat cake

That is more than fair. Cake can have its day, just as every dog has its day.

The English seem to favor puddings on Christmas, the poor sods.

Christmas pudding is great but i've got the feeling i'm the only one in this house who likes it

i will readily admit that i could not deny bread or banana pudding on any day

Don't even start a debate as to what is or is not a pudding.

That said, I just baked a dozen individual sticky toffee puddings topped with kumquats that counter the sweetness. Just waiting to be doused with toffee sauce and put under the broiler.

Should say I also made an annoyingly elaborate 4-layer boozy rum cake (took three days!). And my wife made a cheesecake. Or cream cheese pie, if you prefer.

RUM CAKE omg

It's truly insane. Four-layer sponge cake soaked with rum syrup, with layers of rum-spiked cream in between and around the whole pile of cakes, then coated with a rum-spiked whipped cream. In total: 14 eggs, but no butter!

damnnnn!!! jealous.

I think my wife is making a chocolate bourbon pecan pie for tomorrow's dessert festivities. At least I heard the idea floated and now it better happen otherwise a bunch of presents are going straight into the fireplace.

I seem to hear in my mind the faraway voice of an unknown genius who is saying:

"Hmmm. Lovely. Could anything be better than this pecan pie? (inspiration hits like a ton of bricks) Wait! I know! A bourbon pecan pie! But wait! Dare I lift my eyes yet higher, where on yonder heights I seem to see...yes! (swoons briefly) A chocolate bourbon pecan pie!"

At which point the owner of the voice expires in delight and a welter of exclamation points.

Yeah, lemon meringue or key lime or cherry for me but on the other hand anything with a healthy booze component is a-ok
