Fabric/Fabriclive mix cd series S/D

xp I'm not disputing the truth of it, just often hanker for more in that vein

just gave the claude vonstroke mix a spin.

not sure i have ever actually listened to it before.

really enjoyed it.

not that crazy about this guy's own productions but this looks interesting to say the least

I knew zero about him at all before listening to this, but the Call Super mix is the first one in ages, in the core Fabric series at least, where I feel like I want to go back to it again and again and engage with it in the way I would an album. The fact that it peaks so early (and what a peak!) gives him a lot of time to drift through other moods and the second half is completely mesmerising.

Also I didn't really look at the tracklisting beforehand so the Wonderful Life moment was pretty much hands-in-the-air in my front room.

I can't recommend all of Call Super's own work (under his name as well as Ondo Fudd) highly enough

and yeah the Fabric mix is wonderful

they had a sale on houndstooth stuff, and I was looking through and realizing I wasn't too familiar with the majority and started off on a listening binge to see what's up

well lex and a lot of people i know endorse call super (who i am not crazy about but will be giving another shot)

i quite liked the special request 2CD and i've also really enjoyed the marquis hawkes releases

not so into post-dubstep these days but if you are you will probably like the akkord album

finally i have heard a lot of good things about aisha devi but not investigated myself

actually got into akkord via a remix ep a while back

was surprised aisha devi is on houndstooth -- I saw her live last year and it was a++ and after realizing I'd been into her past work under an alias it made sense

Love the Call Super mix (really like his album from a few years ago too but this is very different).

Had not heard the house version of Photek's "T'Raenon" before, it's very pretty. Kind of nerdishly amused by how the track sequencing implies that Photek leads with a breakbeat when in fact it's Bushwacka's (it's almost like a small joke about how much we have forgotten about 90s dance music).

would not surprise me if they don't release a tracklisting and just put it out.
and yeah, its a pretty bloody great way to end the physical series.

Burial/Kode9 and Craig Richards would be the most underwhelming closing salvo imaginable but it makes sense.

Suspect they'll continue putting mixes out after this but those CDs must be like dumping money into a landfill at this stage.

Given they only just got round to Sasha I wonder if they've got someone really big lined up for Fabric 100 though.

I wonder how many people subscribe? Brother-n-law subscribed for an age, to the extent that it felt like "a big thing" when he stopped. Like he'd *changed* or something.

I subscribed for a brief period but it was over a decade ago! The advent of downloadable mixes and especially the regular podcast ones really put a dent in the market

we should poll them by their album art groups

or do a listen in consecutive order challenge

that's a challenge i'm not going to take btw, even allowing for breaks that just too much bad drum and bass

fabric vs fabriclive

is there that much of a difference really ?
I only have 19 of them, some fabric, some fabriclive, and never even really given the 'live' part much thought.

generally there's a genre split, although there are definite exceptions

fabric is more techno/house and fabriclive tends to have the drum and bass derived stuff combined with a grab bag of random people mixing

the division is exactly the same as Fabriclive on Fridays vs Fabric on Saturdays at the club

as an old man who has never been to the place, I guess that's why I have never understood the distinction.

question : is fabriclive 14 by DJ Spinbad the only hip hop edition of the series ?

The Elijah & Skilliam one definitely doesn't count - that and the Rinse mix are probably the two best commercially available cases for grime as *dance music*.
