do ppl who tie their laces behind their boots think to themselves "i'm that guy who ties his laces behind the boots"

like when i was a young whippersnapper i would roll up my pants legs and i would go out and wonder "are people noticing my rolled-up pants legs rn? because they're pretty fashionable"

oh wait I see that other models of the Galways have dainite and leather soles… I was away with the Rosewood:

those filson (?) boots are really nice looking, i like the olive in particular. woof there are some grensons that are similar to the edward greens but like half the price that i remember looking really nice. ive never had the best luck w/grenson but something to think abt

i always like really long laces but then you have to deal with long laces. also its just kinda aesthetically pleasing to me, it keeps the top of the boot tight to the calf and like slimmer looking i guess?

I wear dark jeans with red wings everyday and don't roll them up because I think it would look too fussy and #menswear. Is my look just "unfinished"?

Treeship, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 01:31 (seven years ago) link

hold on a sec just picturing the allen edmonds jean leg coming down over a redwing

r|t|c, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 01:38 (seven years ago) link

Red Wings are very good boots, but the one pair I bought many years ago had to be broken in. The three pair of Lucchese boots I've bought felt like sneakers the moment I tried them on. I've never been able to wear lace up boots due to a scar that runs along my ankle. I like how they look though and have always wanted to wear lace ups.

JacobSanders, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 01:47 (seven years ago) link

recommend me some reasonably biz-caj luccheses then

Are you oppose to cowboy boots? If you don't want cowboy boots these are gorgeous

i was making a bad joking ref to another thread but those are quite good actually

r|t|c, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 01:58 (seven years ago) link

Googled biz caj and was more confused so I decided to recommend the prettiest boot they have.

JacobSanders, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 02:03 (seven years ago) link

and here i will invoke the no cowboy boots unless you live in texas rule, jacob you're covered iirc

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 02:07 (seven years ago) link

Sounds fair.

JacobSanders, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 02:13 (seven years ago) link

may well be a lapse in taste on my part but tbh i have personally never rly warmed to smart sleek boots that are basically tall dress shoes (i guess the galways would count as such m/l, suede aside)

not saying they should all be lunking hob-nailed workwear either just i think i prefer more of an essence of boot in there or something

― r|t|c, Monday, December 19, 2016 7:42 PM (three hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

agree that short feeble boots are more shoe-y really than boots, but i dont dislike them, they r just not the essence of boot

yeah, I've always heard mixed things about Grenson. I think I'd try Cheaney if I were aiming for something close - they've got a good rep atm, regularly have quite hard sales and have a few things that cover the same sort of area, albeit not so elegantly (But tbh if I want to do it I'm as well to wait for the next EG workshop sale - it'd take some luck & planning to get something good in my size, but that can bring the price down to merely terrifying levels)

Also there is NO REASON to have that many exposed seams on something that's supposed to be meant for wet conditions. NONE.

Actually there weren't as many bad examples in GIS as I was afraid--maybe these had their day and disappeared until the current hi-style revival.

missed this thread. i have black dries van noten military boots, one of the more expensive things i've ever bought i'm not going to post them cos i'll be shamed. they have a tab at the back for tying the lace around there, most of the time people don't see this bit anyway but i actually like the detail. also have a zip. they're incredibly comfortable and i like to wear them almost as much as sneakers which is a win for boots imo.

boots are one of the main reason i like winter fashion so much. i love summer but all men's summer clothes are just variations on how much like tintin i look.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 5 January 2017 19:50 (seven years ago) link

xp Nah idk who is the audience for those, maybe hippies. Medieval re-enactors?

hmm idk laurel i think these boots are pretty different

lag∞n, Thursday, 5 January 2017 19:52 (seven years ago) link

yeah, I've always heard mixed things about Grenson

i would rep for their quality 100 per cent. i don't like the styles the last few seasons but i got a pair of their hadley military boots with rubber soles and they are still in excellent condition after many winters. got them in black last year but am selling them on ebay as when they arrived they'd changed the grain and it was a lot more stiff and uncomfortable.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Thursday, 5 January 2017 19:52 (seven years ago) link

my dad totally wears the boots u posted tho lol, not terrible imo

lag∞n, Thursday, 5 January 2017 19:53 (seven years ago) link

You can't look more like Tintin than caek already does, it's physically impossible. Although it must be said, the plus fours aren't helping either.

being shamed on ilx fashion threads is an honorable thing. half the time i look at these threads someone has posted a picture of a sweater i own and really like as if it were some kind of embarrassing joke. u just have to take it in stride imo

i have a pair of grenson wingtips, theyre nice tho i only wear them when i dress up which is not often, even tho theyre not technically super dressy but whatre u gonna do

lag∞n, Thursday, 5 January 2017 19:55 (seven years ago) link
