its a legitimate style, tho prob not for that boot

If I just put away £10 a week for 2 years a pair of Edward Green Galways will be mine.

i think ive posted this on ilx before but i have a pair of galways i never wear out of fear of wrecking them

also, i tie my boots like that i think it looks good

idk to me it looks like your laces are too long for the boot

flopson made some reference to "cow goo" to for leather protection in the other thread - I don't feel like googling that so can someone explain

"for fear of wrecking them" is exactly why I would never spend more than $150 or so on cold weather boots, people around here go bananas with rock salt and the streets are basically dark saline sludge for weeks after a big snow

I stopped wearing boots when I found a pair of approach shoes I liked:

The Galways have that thick ridgeway sole - they aren't really doing the dress boot thing & they pull off this weird balance between exquisite and rock-solid tough. But agree in general on elegant boots trying to be a tall shoe… that's not really where I want to be.

i always like really long laces but then you have to deal with long laces. also its just kinda aesthetically pleasing to me, it keeps the top of the boot tight to the calf and like slimmer looking i guess?

r|t|c, Tuesday, 20 December 2016 01:38 (seven years ago) link

Red Wings are very good boots, but the one pair I bought many years ago had to be broken in. The three pair of Lucchese boots I've bought felt like sneakers the moment I tried them on. I've never been able to wear lace up boots due to a scar that runs along my ankle. I like how they look though and have always wanted to wear lace ups.

yeah, I've always heard mixed things about Grenson. I think I'd try Cheaney if I were aiming for something close - they've got a good rep atm, regularly have quite hard sales and have a few things that cover the same sort of area, albeit not so elegantly (But tbh if I want to do it I'm as well to wait for the next EG workshop sale - it'd take some luck & planning to get something good in my size, but that can bring the price down to merely terrifying levels)

missed this thread. i have black dries van noten military boots, one of the more expensive things i've ever bought i'm not going to post them cos i'll be shamed. they have a tab at the back for tying the lace around there, most of the time people don't see this bit anyway but i actually like the detail. also have a zip. they're incredibly comfortable and i like to wear them almost as much as sneakers which is a win for boots imo.

boots are one of the main reason i like winter fashion so much. i love summer but all men's summer clothes are just variations on how much like tintin i look.

i would rep for their quality 100 per cent. i don't like the styles the last few seasons but i got a pair of their hadley military boots with rubber soles and they are still in excellent condition after many winters. got them in black last year but am selling them on ebay as when they arrived they'd changed the grain and it was a lot more stiff and uncomfortable.
