I feel like maybe I should have campaigned for Skuggsjá, it came out early in the year so now I'm worried it'll be forgotten.

l0u1s jagg3r I once made this guy sit through a Whit Stillman movie naked against his will and he's repaid me by making one of the best metal albums of 2016. There's no justice Favorite track: Reflecting Pool.

literally ten people on this earth have heard his music, four of them in this poll. it's great obv - indie-leaning sludge-doom with good production values and songwriting. sounds a bit like if mansun made a metal album (in a good way)

Oh, looks like it's part of a trilogy, maybe the box holds all three records. Can they be listened to out of order, or should one start with the 2009 album and move on from there?

It's part 3 of a trilogy I think, so maybe they all feature in the treasure trove, hopefullly with a set of runes too. It's really nice dark folk. Or as imago put it: 'like the in-between bits on a black metal album'

still researching Wardruna, that's the other guy from Skuggsja!

Oh I voted for Truckfighters. One of the bands I discovered in the lower reaches of a previous year's poll. Not as good as Conan or Wo Fat, but still pretty solid.

You can listen to the Wardruna in any order. I wrote about how they make their instruments here.

I'm happy just to see Lord Vicar, Blood Ceremony and Madder Mortem make the top 100. I've seen lists with either Blood Ceremony or Purson but rarely both, which is odd, as I think they're both great and very close in quality. I saw them both live this year, a couple of my favorite shows. Truckfighters are one of my top five all-time favorite live bands, and am stoked that I'll see them again next month.
