Pitchfork's 20 Best Experimental Albums. I'm working through these. Matmos is really good and Yves Tumor is enjoyable so far.

serpentwithfeet is pretty badass but it's not really what I would bring to mind when thinking of "experimental music"

Anna Meredith album is great as well but there's nothing experimental about it at all.

Ha, yeah, I don't know if I'd really describe the things I've listened to as "experimental" per se but these lists usually include music I enjoy. xp

Nice. I've been enjoying Michael Formanek’s Ensemble Kolossus – The Distance. Also, the Pi label is putting out great stuff, like the Steve Lehman (Sélébéyone from the Bandcamp list), Henry Threadgill's Ensemble Double Up and Jonathan Finlayson & Sicilian Defense. that bandcamp list may be the one with the most overlap with my best of the year. i'm also really enjoying the terrace martin right now.

The Textura list is always a good one for the experimental side of 'modern classical'/jazz/ambient.

Well, she has basically said that the whole album is her response to that shade, so not responding does seem kind of petty. That being said, I do like Caramanica, and not saying anything > panning it, I guess. Animosity from an artist has been known to influence how you perceived that artist's work. But to the extent that he influenced one of the AOTYs, I guess he should be... proud?
