"Good Morning Schoolgirl" for me, but hell yeah, one of the most exciting Chicago blues albums that this non-aficionado has heard--the Leslie speaker on Buddy's guitar is the icing on the cake...

“I went to this pawnshop downtown and the man had a harmonica priced at $2.00. I got a job on a soda truck… played hookey from school … worked all week and on Saturday the man gave me a dollar and a half. A dollar and a half! For a whole week of work. I went to the pawnshop and the man said the price was two dollars. I told him I had to have that harp. He walked away from the counter – left the harp there. So I laid my dollar-and-a-half on the counter and picked up the harp. When my trial came up, the judge asked my why I did it. I told him I had to have that harp. The judge asked me to play it and when I did he gave the man the 50 cents and hollered “Case dismissed!”

His energy on this is insane.

off topic here but his The First I Met The Blues album w/ Buddy Guy is also classic.

Voted Snatch it Back.

Another album that remind's me of this is the Magic Sam Blues Band's Black Magic

I just got this one on vinyl. Such a good record. Snatch it back and hold it for me.

Weird results. I forgot to vote, but Snatch It Back.. is the only song on here I don't love. If I wanna listen to James Brown I'll listen to James Brown

Wells is probably my favorite a harp player. Love those rhythmic grunts in between blowing and drawing! Such a strange, awesome sound.

I'm actually not a tremendous Buddy Guy fan but I love him on here. Sorta wish he'd kept playing this way (rhythmic, supportive but still creative) but he was probably too good to stay in the shadows for long

Always weird to me to read reviews of this record that don't mention the Leslie (or that mention the effect but get it wrong--I even saw a review that called it "reverb"--d'oh!). It's not exactly a sound you hear every day (especially not on a blues record from '65!)

I wanna buy the 2xLP 45rpm pressing of this record but it's pricey. I only own this on CD though. Anyone heard the LP reissue?

Snatch It Back is so much more than a cheap JB facsimile, or even if it is - it is one that is fucking great!

calzino, Tuesday, 10 January 2017 20:15 (seven years ago) link

I mean, I like it, of course - I have a pulse, after all! - and I didn't say it was a "cheap" facsimile, just that, to me, it really doesn't represent the greatness of this record. It feels like the song you play to convert someone who "doesn't like blues" or something.

Anyway, what an amazing record. Just talking about it makes me want to listen to it.
