Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 21:25 (seven years ago) link

I liked Black Star (the track) as much as anyone, but it was released in November 2015. Seems odd to put it at #1 this year when any other track from the LP was available.

Camaraderie at Arms Length, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 21:36 (seven years ago) link

that is a horrendous list tbh

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 21:38 (seven years ago) link

cool that they like oranssi pazuzu though

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 21:41 (seven years ago) link

Recall last year the (arguably) best list was Cosmopolitan, (not arguably) worst was Radio X, will see if that holds up this year.

Camaraderie at Arms Length, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 21:41 (seven years ago) link

That treblezind might be the most uninspired list of best songs I've seen so far. They should've added a one song restriction per artist.

insipid indie sites and their lists

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 23:43 (seven years ago) link

is there even an "indie" artist on that list

alpine static, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 23:54 (seven years ago) link

the indie game has shifted but the fader's aesthetic is pure hipster chic afaict

only even heard of 25 of those artists, finally I am old and out of touch (yells at cloud)

― sleeve

is there anybody outside, like, this board who has heard of more than 25 of those artists? not trying to be sarcastic here, i'm a little sheltered and maybe there are parties you can go to where people will say "Oh yeah, 'Boy' by Boyboy, I love that one!" without lying through their teeth.

increasingly bonkers (rushomancy), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 23:56 (seven years ago) link

for the record i listened to "boy" by boyboy and i did actually like it a lot, but i'll be fucked if i'm going to listen to 99 more bands playing at the walpurgisnacht rock festival in the illuminatus! trilogy.

I went one by one on the gvb list since I have nothing to do and I knew 47 of those songs and have 23 of those songs ( almost a perfect half)on my own personal top 100. So I can vouch for 23% of that list as being awesome. Never heard of boy by boyboy.

Moka, Wednesday, 7 December 2016 06:00 (seven years ago) link

From the top 10 I'll vouch for Whitney, ATCQ, Radiohead and Maggie Rogers. But the only song that makes me grunt in there is Jessy Lanza.

idk there's lots I haven't heard of on there but there are quite a few names I've rarely thought about in like a decade. I had no idea bands like Jimmy Eat World and Sum 41 were still going somehow.
