That's cool DLP - I'm pretty sure I already have enough illustrations of how American indie fans consider their taste the centre of the musical universe.

^^ fp'd you for this tbh. What point are you even trying to make?

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 4 December 2016 22:32 (seven years ago) link

not sure why that post warranted an FP? Its hardly offensive

Cosmic Slop, Sunday, 4 December 2016 22:42 (seven years ago) link

I'd complain about all these old bands doing so well in these lists if the two best albums I'd heard recently weren't by ATAQ and Yello...

nashwan, Sunday, 4 December 2016 22:45 (seven years ago) link

ATAQ ATCQ

nashwan, Sunday, 4 December 2016 22:46 (seven years ago) link

fp'ing a poster for an incomprehensible post really is a new low.. especially when i somehow haven't yet been flagged off this board

a but (brimstead), Sunday, 4 December 2016 22:47 (seven years ago) link

Wait there's a new Yello album?!?

sleeve, Sunday, 4 December 2016 22:48 (seven years ago) link

I know, right? Let's not get distracted, people.

¶ (DJP), Sunday, 4 December 2016 23:10 (seven years ago) link

Ugh, you people do not get what "fp'd you for this" means do you? It doesn't mean I actually fp'd. #societyisinthegutteretc

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 4 December 2016 23:34 (seven years ago) link

OT but I always though Cosmic Slop was Algerian Goalkeeper.

Le Bateau Ivre, Sunday, 4 December 2016 23:36 (seven years ago) link

Let's just get back to Yello, shall we.

dlp9001, Sunday, 4 December 2016 23:38 (seven years ago) link

Listening to it now. A++ so far.

OT but I always though Cosmic Slop was Algerian Goalkeeper.

You were right.

damn, cover blown after all this time

Cosmic Slop, Sunday, 4 December 2016 23:40 (seven years ago) link

I reckon I'd like some of the Norman Records list but the descriptions are so annoying and useless as a quick reference point that I might not be able to wade through it.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 5 December 2016 11:58 (seven years ago) link

Picadilly has some good lists up - reissues, compilations, etc.

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Monday, 5 December 2016 18:01 (seven years ago) link

what this says about my social identity i barely want to speculate but i guess i should start buying albums at starbucks counters

incidentally, i set my radio to the NPR classical/jazz station this week bc normal NPR news has been too depressing and i'm going thru an anxiety episode

Mordy, Monday, 5 December 2016 18:02 (seven years ago) link

from backseatmafia:

“In ‘Helios Rising’ Moths and Locusts have produced an album that shares much of the eclectic endeavour of it’s predecessor, but seem to have found a greater depth and breadth to their sound. This is an album that deserves your full attention since it is crammed full of ideas and influences all of which are not so much put together as crafted into a set of songs that will continue to grow with every play. I am convinced that this will be an album that I will be listening to for years to come and that I have thus far only touched the surface of its sonic depth.”

wow, i kind of feel like posting this to "worst music writing" thread. does this paragraph contain anything? anything at all?

xiphoid beetlebum (rushomancy), Monday, 5 December 2016 18:21 (seven years ago) link

Cool to see a Danish composer at six on the NPR list. Should probably listen to it, then.

Complex's list http://ca.complex.com/music/2016/12/best-albums-of-2016/

I haven't gotten around to hearing either record yet but seeing Lil Yachty three spots above Bowie makes me smile because it has the potential to piss off so many people

Like me, because Lil Yachty sucks.

From the album artwork, featuring a watercolor illustration of a damp, cloudy autumn day, you know James Blake’s The Colour in Anything is strapping you in for a ride to Feelzville

Fat White Family in TheQ's top ten is sort of like ... did someone lose a bet or something?

calzino, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:12 (seven years ago) link

or maybe it is just typical TQ. But jeez, spare me ...

calzino, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:14 (seven years ago) link

I generally like the Quietus but some of the music they go absolutely apeshit for I find pretty poor - I don't get what's so great about Arabrot either but they're at least better than fucking Fat White Family.

At least their token black metal album's interesting though.

ultros ultros-ghali, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:15 (seven years ago) link

both of their token black metal albums are fairly good ;)

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:16 (seven years ago) link

xps the track listing on SsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSsSs is a delight too :)

nxd, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:33 (seven years ago) link

Our three token black metal albums are all very good if you ask me.

Doran, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:35 (seven years ago) link

xxp I was talking about JG actually I missed Oranssi Pazuzu which is higher than I would've expected!

(I was being tongue in cheek calling them token btw)

ultros ultros-ghali, Tuesday, 6 December 2016 12:40 (seven years ago) link

gnaw their tongues is p good too, am guessing that's the third

Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 6 December 2016 13:00 (seven years ago) link

oh it's a new gnaw their tongues! oh em gee etc

Nice to see an album released by The Quietus Phonographic Corporation made it to #24 on their year-end list.

8. Ian William Craig - Centres

I've been trying this one off and on since it came out but it's just not connecting. Loved his first two. I guess I'm put off by the vocals being higher in the mix this time around.
