lol at this post on reddit -
There was an aphex twin show I saw where he literally sat on a couch in front of his laptop for almost 2 hours and just played music. He could have been playing minecraft for all I know. I never really understand live electronic music but it seems like there’s no right or wrong way to approach it.

Ha, the one time I saw him live he did this. There was a stage with a couch on it. He reclined with a laptop while three people in giant Day-Glo teddy bear costumes stumbled around.

2002, no visible presence, just someone in giant Teddy Bear furry doing the same exact dance for 40-50 minutes over his "DJ" set (was billed as a performer at the festival).

"Music writer John Doran ventures into the strange world of Richard D James. Over the course of three decades James, known to his legion of hardcore fans as Aphex Twin, has achieved the primary but evasive aim of most serious musicians - the invention, exploration and curation of a truly unique and inimitable sound."

I listened to it earlier today and I must say I really enjoyed it. Haven't listened to a full album by RDJ in ages; the programme made me want to dig out his records and give them all a spin.

Badass International DJ Mark Robinson is not happy
So us grafters bust our humps in the studio, make a dope track, spend money on promo, beg our peers to support, hustle, hustle... and it comes and goes.... Aphex Twin puts a picture up in a tube station and the whole industry goes mad for it— Mark Robinson (@djmarkrobinson) August 1, 2018

yea this was my first thought as well, the way every single movement in the music is reflected in the video is insane. if I watched this in VR I'd probably have a stroke

especially love the first minute or so of the video, with all the descending text. although i ended up pausing the video about a dozen times to read certain frames!
at the same time...
― the masseduction of lauryn hill (Stevie D(eux)),
on first listen, i kind of agree. it would fit in on any number of his earlier releases, seamlessly. but that's not really a criticism in itself - if anything it kind of speaks to the mindblowing futurism of his 90s music. and if he released selected ambient works vol 3, and it sounded just like 2 (or 1) i would be absolutely thrilled. i think the bigger problem (personally speaking) is i'm not sure what place this kind of frenetic music has in my life anymore, to be honest. it's not you, rdj, it's me.
