people who have a policy for reservations that involve leaving a voicemail and say "we'll only call you if there is a problem".

so...how do we know for sure you got our message?

(there's a local theatre that does this and a few things people have showed up having not gotten a "there's a problem call" only to find out their voicemail was bungled.

also people who sell tickets using Paypal but don't bother to limit the transactions to their capacity so they oversell.

there is some guy who was irritating in some of my college classes. late in college, i was regularly reading metafilter.. and he showed up there! and was nearly as irritating, posting all the time

so now i'm reading stuff on twitter and sure enough, at least once a week i see this motherfucker chiming in on random conversations! shut up, chad!

people who ask you if you can do something late one night and start harassing you the next morning for a response without any regard for whether you even saw the first message or have had any time to think over whether they can do what you ask before their arbitrary deadline

Neanderthal, Saturday, 3 December 2016 22:03 (seven years ago) link

like sorry I didn't respond to you, I was driving 6 hours to Atlanta on a trip with my buddy when you sent in, we didn't get in until after midnight, and we slept in the next day..........

People who sit down in the middle of a subway starcase, don't bother to move when a train shows up and hundreds of people start coming up the narrow stairway and then get annoyed about being accidentally trampled.

nothing is really irrational here, all of our feelings are legit. i get mad at everyone who drives to another neighborhood (mine) and parks there. i do it too, but who cares.

even weirder is when you like the second one even better than the first, order two more, and both of them are identical, and they're both worse the #1 and the beloved #2

App notifications that don't actually notify you of anything.

I swear, Facebook must've figured out that seeing the number "4" inside a tiny red circle will trigger just about anyone to click and see what surprises they've got waiting. Most of the time, it's non-news like "So-and-so is still waiting on his friend request!" or "This post you have nothing to do with has a new comment."

Instagram has followed the lead now too. I'll click the notifications bug and see, yep, those same three people are still waiting for me to accept or decline their invitation.

Not sure if it's bad bus stop set up or dumb people but the idea that there is no need for people to step away from the doors of a full bus that is about to empty. Or coming the other way the idea that you need to dodge around a bunch of people to get off a bus and will probably come very close at least to colliding with some eejit as you try to walk away from the bus.

Not sure if this is just down to pretty much nothing having been done about changing the layout of the pavement where the buses stop when they redid the square several years ago. I don't think there were any bus stops down taht side where my terminus stop is when the road was also open on the now pedestrianised side of the square.
I can't be the only person who finds that a major pain.

Also possibly even worse si the bus stop where the coaches out of town stop outside GMIT the campus that's most of the way out of town.
IT has a narrow pavement with a bus shelter on one side and the perimeter wall for GMIT on the other side of teh pavement. & it's where you need to stand with suitcases etc if you're waiting for a bus to the airport or to Dublin or wherever.
Just hoping that they will rethink that entire junction when they open the Garda station HQ that's being built opposite. Can't see how that junction is going to work if the main police station is on it as it currently exists.

I think this one's rational anger but as a help desk agent there's nothing more counter-productive than a client's thoughts about why something is not working and their rampant chatter. I mean, I wouldn't go into a hospital and try to correct a doctor's technique during a surgery. Just let me do my job.

Ross, Thursday, 8 December 2016 00:46 (seven years ago) link

Or just their rampant chatter full stop! Oh god, no I dont need your life story as to what 300 things you did with your phone before you rang us, just tell me what you want fixed and STFU so I can fix it.

the declaration that "such-and-such needs to happen" when what is meant is "i want such-and-such to happen and am angry it hasn't"

mark s, Sunday, 11 December 2016 15:59 (seven years ago) link

I'm at the end of a bunch of traffic with about three car lengths between me and the next vehicle and EMPTY SPACE behind me as far as the eye can see. People turning out of side street see me and decide "yeah, this dude'll stop for me even though he's doing 45 mph, I'm in too much of a hurry to wait three seconds for him to pass and get *ugh* behind him, where no cars are coming and I wouldn't be risking my idiot life and his, HERE I GO." This has happened to me approximately a dozen times in the past week.

The IA part comes in when I want to follow them to wherever they're going and kick them in the shins, I guess.

Armando Iannucci has a good bit about this where he talks about listening to the 538 podcast and in the middle of all of this dry political analysis they'll suddenly & without pausing for breath go "we'll come back to that in a minute, but I just want to talk about underpants for a second". And everyone else on the panel enthusiastically joins in talking about how comfortable these underpants are as if this is normal. I find it more embarrassing than anything else.

Squarespace is web hosting where you have a bunch of templates and can easily modify them to make a decent looking business page or whatever without putting in work coding or designing w/ Wordpress.

This is one that happens to me all the time now:

I'm driving along a major road and turn off into a residential area--the car in front of me also turns, but not because they're actually going anywhere. They've just pulled off the busy road to text someone. But instead of pulling to the side of the road, they let their car roll slowly forward, often weaving into the center of the street so they can't be passed. Until they finally cease moving at a stop sign and then just sit there.

lately here everybody's been aggro-driving lately.

last week this odd lady in a parking garage kept repeatedly honking at me for reasons I can't discern last week.

had someone aggressively tailgating me back from Miami last night on a two lane road, weaving side to side in the lane. and couldn't get over immediately cos there were cars clogging the right lane, tho finally was able to.

had some landscaping idiot aggressively (and illegally) pass me in the oncoming lane outside my neighborhood this morning...

lately the scary thing though is people backing out without looking, almost had my driver's side door caved in at least three times in the last two weeks by people who did that as I was going by.

in conclusion fuck cars, viva feet.
