i dreamt my grocery store was being changed into a super-version of itself, like a huge suburban version (now it is just "neighborhood" size or something) and it was so confusing and i was lost. there was no produce at all out yet. i got very confused in the cereal area too. cereal dreams.

cereal be confusing!

you are nervous baout something, but it's all gonna work out ok. you won't let yourself believe that, though, so you're dreaming about fake emergency situations that aren't really emergencies.

oh, this is sagelike — thanks!

I dreamt I went to the supermarket and was surprised to see bottles of pomegranate juice, which had been illegal until recently because of its hallucinogenic properties. they had plain pom juice and pom-cherry blend (which really exists — I had no idea), and after much thought I settled for a bottle of the pure stuff. I felt a little guilty when I went through the checkout line, like I was getting away with buying drugs or something.

I dreamt I was taking a riverside stroll with Abe Vigoda by my side. Abe had a weird, fist-sized liver spot on his right cheek. He was my friend. At the sandy river's edge, hordes of people were eating lunch and enjoying the mild springtime weather. As Abe and I walked farther and farther downstream, stray people would emerge from the crowd and offer Abe bits of their lunches, which he politely accepted. He soon had more food than he knew what to do with, so gave a lot of it to me. I appreciated Abe's generosity but was secretly jealous that people worshiped him and ignored me just because he was a celebrity and I wasn't.

i dreamed i was looking at an apt and the carpet was dirty so i was steam cleaning it and it wouldn't get clean, it was just pushing dirt around. then i went to the next room and it was like this huge house with secret doors and beautiful hardwood flooring and wood trim and colorfully painted walls. but then i realized i was in the wrong apartment, and this was like 3 connected apartments, but i couldn't figure out which was the right one and where one ended and the other began or which door was for which apartment.

what does my dream mean?

I have recurring dreams that I'm in school and it's the end of the semester when I suddenly realize that I am registered for a class that I either never attended or was supposed to drop but didn't and so will therefore fail. What does it mean?

I should probably note that I actually did this as an undergrad and did fail the class. But why am I dreaming about this 10 years later and what can it mean now?

a sweet ballet dancer (ENBB), Sunday, 10 May 2009 04:39 (fourteen years ago) link

To dream that you are in school, signifies feelings of inadequacy and childhood insecurities that have never been resolved. It may relate to anxieties about your performance and abilities. If you are still in school and dream about school, then it will naturally serve as a backdrop to your dream world.

Alternatively, a dream that takes place in school may be a metaphor for the lessons that you are learning from your waking life. You may be going through a "spiritual learning" experience.

tehresa, Sunday, 10 May 2009 04:47 (fourteen years ago) link

it means you have trouble deciding whether to escape or confront certain responsibilities. for whatever reason, you want to have your cake and eat it too. on the one hand, you want to be held responsible for your work (i.e. you signed up for the class & didn't bother to drop it), but on the other hand you don't want to be responsible for it (because you don't show up for class). thus you're left in an uncomfortable middle ground where you lack both the freedom that comes from escaping an obligation (i.e. dropping the class asap) and the sense of accomplishment that comes from facing it head-on (i.e. showing up and doing your work). in the end, you have no choice but to be held accountable for whatever task you've committed yourself to (i.e. fail the class) no matter how hard you've been trying to force it out of your mind.

this kind of dilemma tends to play out a lot in relationships. for instance, you might have a friend you don't get along with very well. you're too afraid to come out and say, "I don't want to be friends anymore," but you're too angry to work out your differences and stay in contact with the person. but inevitably that friend-not-friend will come back to you and be like, "What's going on? Are we still bros?" and suddenly you'll have to deal with a boatload of unpleasant feelings and memories.

the solution, predictably enough, is to decide whether you want to break off or stick with an obligation/friendship/whatever, and to act upon that decision with as much conviction as you can muster. taking sides is often less painful then trying to have the best of both worlds, even though it might not seem that way immediately.

i had a dream that i went to a football game and it was "playoffs" like instead of bcs this was like a semi-final game and the game i went to was ohio university (that's weird but it was ohio but not osu because the colors were green) vs. texas. also the stadium was a new design where the field is vertical, like the entire stadium is tipped sideways. my seats were supposed to be on the side where your stomach would be facing the ground. i was really scared. i don't think i ever made it to the game. what does it mean?

i dreamed that i was driving around what looked 90% like my parents' town (where i grew up), and i at one point saw someone i know but not from that town. they were driving a different car than usual, and somehow i ended up behind them for a long time, but then they were behind me, and it was this weird constantly following each other thing but never quite connecting or acknowledging each other and i felt somehow guilty. and then i looked and saw that their glasses were on my dash and i was confused as to how they were driving. then i got on the highway. they were behind me. in front of me was a truck that had cheese puffs flying out the back! but a sign that said 'do not eat!'. from the left side, regular ones were flying out (like cheetos), from the right, it was snowing cheese balls. they came into the ventilation system of my car and got chopped up so it was like cheesy flaky corn raining everywhere. then i got off the highway and drove down a major road but i have no memory of anything happening next. maybe i woke up?

tehresa, Tuesday, 12 May 2009 14:15 (fourteen years ago) link

I have been having weird dreams lately that feel more "real" and more vivid than ever. To the point that when I wake up they feel like memories. The weird part is they seem to continue on from the night before, eg last week I dreamt after a club I was in I went to a party in somebody's house, the only hitch being it was in a small French village that felt vaguely familiar, possibly from a family holiday as a child. Was seriously weird and felt like I was in this dream for hours. When I woke up I had dreamt so much that I was like "thank god that was all a dream, all those complicated and weird events".

Might need to sharpen my lifestyle up a bit.

I dreamt I went to a chop shop in some guy's garage because I couldn't afford the (legal) market price of $1000 to get one of my car's wheels replaced. instead of handing me a stolen wheel, the guy insulted me by saying I had "porpoise cheeks." I have no idea what he meant by that, but I was extremely offended and nearly in tears. I stormed out of the shop without getting what I came for.

I dreamt that I was explaining my guitar pedals to Stephen fry, who was in full on "popular beat combo tweed jacket" mode and asking me dumb questions like "what is a cable? I don't understand, what does it actually do?", and I'm all like "FFS man! you have two dozen computers, of course you know what an f-ing cable is!"

I dreamt that I snuck into America's Stonehenge by cutting through someone's backyard and hiking through the woods for a bit. I thought I could just blend into the crowd, but there weren't any tourists around, and a group of park rangers (?) spotted me right away. they seemed friendly, and they didn't even care that I was trespassing. I noticed that all the stone structures were covered with big blue tarps. when I asked one of the rangers why, he said some teenagers had sprayed them with graffiti overnight, and the area would be closed until they got it cleaned up. I followed the rangers to the museum, where we watched a bogus video about how America's Stonehenge was the oldest man-made structure in North America & had spiritual powers or something. I dunno what happened after that.

I had RIDICULOUS dreams last night.

1) I dreamt I got a chinchilla and had to light-proof my office (which I was staying in for some reason) because the chinchilla was nocturnal. So I'm light-proofing the joint and all of a sudden chinchilla is no longer a chinchilla but has somehow turned into this dude http://www.youtube.com/user/edarem who is still nocturnal and in need of a dark room. WTF.

2) I am working for The Gza on trying to cover up some murder. He comes over to my house and we're totally BFFs. I lend him a sleeping bag to use in some way as part of this whole cover up thing. Later the same day I go out to lunch and score an awesome handbag while shopping with my friend Dean Wareham who then tries to kiss me. Dean and I go back to my place to meet up with The Gza again. Then I woke up.

I did not drink, do any type of drugs or eat a lot of cheese last night. W.T.F.?

whoa does cheese give you weird dreams? i kinda cut down on my cheese intake recently maybe that's why i have no dreams anymore. except a couple nights ago i had one of those dreams integrated into reality. i can't remember the dream but i woke up thinking someone was being beaten outside my building but it was just a drunk girl laughing and stomping in high heels.

Those dreams that are integrated into reality are always so disorientating.

i had a dream that i was a seamstress and got to stitch up this really hot bass-baritone's costume and was very <3 about it.
then i also dreamed that i was at some kind of step aerobics class that turned into working opening night and this time i was staying at the house and overseeing some people that were helping out in the lobby including a girl who was working opening night as community service for what she said was 'just a misdemeanor' and something that was 'kind of fun to have on your record.' there was some horrible bathroom issue and the lines were really long and it was really gross and not up to met standards at all and i couldn't find a place to change into the proper attire. it was stressful.

I dreamt I was getting ready to build a life-size nativity scene. I was stumped because I wanted it to be as accurate as possible, but I wasn't sure if an authentic Jewish stable would be big enough to house a camel. to solve the matter, I went to the library and got ahold of a documentary on camels. according to the docu, the biggest camel of all time was 20 feet tall. but it had been dead for many, many years, and all that was left of it was a grainy b&w photo.

the second biggest camel of all time was 18-feet tall. the camera cut to a scraggly Midwestern farmer with an air of Joe Dirt about him; in the background was a house-sided camel with a ladder propped against its flank. the farmer explained that he had smuggled the camel from India when it was just a baby. at the time it was small enough to fit in the palm of his hand, and he had no idea it would grow any bigger.

but farmer dude obviously didn't give a shit about the camel. he admitted that he only agreed to appear in the film because he had a rare respiratory disease, and he wanted me, the viewer, to mail him a donation to cover the cost of treatment. I felt bad for him and copied down his address when it flashed across the screen. but I was annoyed because I still didn't have the answer to my question.

dumb dream imho.
