Favorite part of the plane episode is Dee hallucinating Boss Hogg instead of Wade Boggs

"Dennis Goes Bald"

rewatching the one where Dennis revisits his old Penn State frat(!) made me wonder how/why they completely avoided the Paterno thing. Or maybe they felt they'd already done that story with that early "Charlie Gets Molested" ep

def one of my fave moments of the show.

I believe they are signed up to do two more seasons beyond the one starting in January. From what I understand, it's a pretty huge hit as a streaming show.

earlnash, Wednesday, 16 November 2016 23:24 (seven years ago) link

it seems p under the radar to me - I don't know anyone else irl who watches it, and they never get awards/press

Οὖτις, Wednesday, 16 November 2016 23:38 (seven years ago) link

my all-time favorite has to be "Who Got Dee Pregnant?"

I don't know anyone else irl who watches it

I know loads! Maybe has more cultural currency here in the UK at this point than in the States.

chap, Thursday, 17 November 2016 11:15 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, it is a bit cultish but everyone in my world of (relatively) young people watches it

Number None, Thursday, 17 November 2016 15:20 (seven years ago) link

i know many ppl who watch this show

lag∞n, Thursday, 17 November 2016 16:24 (seven years ago) link

what. everyone watches this show

Evan, Thursday, 17 November 2016 16:48 (seven years ago) link

anecdotally this is a popular show. i know tons of people who watch it. and it's the flagship show of fxx. fxx's demo is men 18-34 so maybe that might be a factor in whether you know lots of people who watch it or not.

harold melvin and the bluetones (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 17 November 2016 17:17 (seven years ago) link

flagship show of FXX isn't something to write home about I'd guess though.

dan selzer, Thursday, 17 November 2016 17:25 (seven years ago) link

it was a hit on fx and they specifically moved it to the new network to help it gain viewers at launch iirc

harold melvin and the bluetones (jim in vancouver), Thursday, 17 November 2016 17:35 (seven years ago) link

Guys. This fucking show is all the love. The Wade Boggs EP is my personal fave. So season 12 starting in January, right? Does this mean season 11 will hit Netflix/Hulu in January too?

Quarter measures (sunny successor), Friday, 18 November 2016 08:55 (seven years ago) link

I too have been itching to rewatch last season's 2-part finale on the boat, that shit was so perfect

Οὖτις, Sunday, 11 December 2016 19:02 (seven years ago) link

I assume there will be substantially different cuts for TV vs. streaming apps

anyway this looks to keep up their streak of all other shows they're involved with being ghastly

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 11 December 2016 19:24 (seven years ago) link

that looks deeply terrible

Thought this ep was pretty mediocre tbh

think it was too weird to be mediocre even if it didn't bring the huge lols

illbient microtonal poetry Surbiton (imago), Friday, 6 January 2017 10:48 (seven years ago) link

Oh it was good. Charlie Day bringing his A game with the songs - way more hummable than The Nightman Cometh, and a better premise to boot. Over the past few weeks I'd been thinking about how it was too bad that the new season was probably shot too early to grapple with a Trump presidency, and then they made a reference to it like 5 minutes in ("We did have a black president before the orange one"). Aside from good protest music, of which I'm sure there is more to come, the comedic potential for this show in the Trump era might be one of the only sort of good things to come from this fucking horrible time in our history.
