I don't see 'The Most Beautiful Girl In The World' on that tracklisting!

Hey they included Take Me With U and Mountains! Nice!

Even though the press release says it's on there!

Gold Experience in general is sorely missed on that tracklist, does someone else have its rights?

No, GE is under Warner control.

Yeah it totally rules, I mean that is the big story here. There's so much incredible stuff they could put on disc 2 of purple rain deluxe too.

And 'roadhouse garden' studio version, and Prince vocal of glamorous life

seeeeeems like there ought to be a live disc + studio outtakes disc? gotta be plenty to fill that up. maybe even a extended mix disc?

tylerw, Friday, 21 October 2016 20:28 (seven years ago) link

There have been leaks of really cool 1984 studio shit lately, hopefully some of it is on there despite being a little late for purple rain (he was already on to the next thing)

his eye is on despair-o (Jon not Jon), Friday, 21 October 2016 20:28 (seven years ago) link

It'll be great to hear Purple Rain remastered as I think the '80s CD of it sounds a bit flat (the vinyl version, of course, still rules) ... I just really hope they take care over it and not squash the life out of it.

want some a that concert footage pleeeease

Flamenco Drop (VegemiteGrrl), Friday, 21 October 2016 20:30 (seven years ago) link

1. Remastered album
2. 12 inch mixes incl the Shiela Vanity Family and Time singles of its era
3. Unreleased Studio stuff
4. The First Avenue Benefit show '83
5. The purple rain rehearsal soundboard previously circulated as 'Neon Rendezvous'

IMHO

VG the official purple rain live vhs video and the footage of the 83 benefit were both on YouTube in the month after his death-- idk if squashed by now though

I like your five disc setup, jon -- would buy!!!!!
1984 Birthday Show is amazing too. though, yeah, it seems like a separate live series would be a good move? I dunno.

tylerw, Friday, 21 October 2016 20:34 (seven years ago) link

Turrican, the purple rain remaster has already been out -- it was done for the vinyl reish and for the the HDTracks version (but HDTracks only had a temporary license to sell it). It sounds great.

I know we've done a Prince artist poll already, but I was thinking it may be worth re-running it. It's a possibility that there may be a higher turnout... besides, those results look a little odd to me. Way too much '90s Prince, for one.

pen pineapple apple pen (Turrican), Friday, 21 October 2016 21:43 (seven years ago) link

Oh haha actually why would I need to upload it, I just realized l can just send u guys a link to the place I got it from. Let me get home and track it down.

New Prince ballot poll otm, but maybe we let the first couple rarities things come out officially first so some shit like moonbeam levels has a fair shake at placement? Idk

his eye is on despair-o (Jon not Jon), Friday, 21 October 2016 22:12 (seven years ago) link

fave prince song is still "electric intercourse" -- will be interesting to see if there are other versions of that one (I only know of two).

tylerw, Friday, 21 October 2016 22:25 (seven years ago) link

40 ballots was a v high turnout for the Prince tracks poll, I don't think much would change tbh. These results don't look that crazy to me.

are you saying you will not accept the results of this poll

Οὖτις, Friday, 21 October 2016 23:16 (seven years ago) link

No, what I'm saying is that since Prince passed away (yes, I'm still trying to get my head around it too) there'll have been existing fans binge listening to his back catalogue, some people may have filled in holes in their knowledge and others may have taken advantage of the fact that his music is easier to access than it was, so possible new converts. Plus, the fact that some members weren't around when the poll was ran the first time.

i thought it was a pretty interesting poll, which i prefer to standard listings of "canon" hits. a mishmash of his super poppy stuff like "little red corvette" and '80s b-sides and deep album cuts. so for "1999" there's no sign of "delirious", "d.m.s.r.", or "automatic", but we do get "lady cab driver" and "how come u don't call me anymore". which is... idiosyncratic.

but i voted for "batdance" as my #1 so i'm not about to complain about idiosyncratic results.
