Lots of great Kill City tracks in the low end of the poll. I considered most of the above but while I love them I don't love them as much as the Stooges songs from 69 to 73 that punch me in the best way every time I hear them. "Sell Your Love" was the last one I dropped from my ballot.

willem, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 20:14 (seven years ago) link

Yeah voters left some great tracks in the lower end of the poll but hey it's a short poll so I think every track gets the attention it deserves.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 11 October 2016 20:17 (seven years ago) link

I'm one of the two voters for "Sixteen". The space in the recording, the somehow very tangible guitar sound, it sounds fantastic. One of the highpoints in the set I saw him play on the Post Pop Depression tour.

willem, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 20:18 (seven years ago) link

Ok, this will be the last one of the day, come back tomorrow for more! And guess what? it's another Kill City track!

"Tell Me A Story" is one of the best tracks on New Values, a great album opener. Super catchy guitar and I love the restrained/laidback vocals. The backing vocals always make me smile.

willem, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 20:27 (seven years ago) link

Great kick-off Moka, loving the graphics. Hope there's some more feedback later on.

willem, Tuesday, 11 October 2016 20:31 (seven years ago) link

We need to get to the tracks with at least 5 votes I think before people comment on the tracks hehe

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 11 October 2016 21:01 (seven years ago) link

#1 here for "I'm Sick of You" (TOO LOW!, BTW). Easily the best manifestion of the 'Psychedelic' side of the Stooges, with plenty of snot and a brilliant Yardbirds rip during the fast part. One of Iggy's best vocals too.

I did not know that song and it was a nice surprise kind of like the stooges meet the doors

✖✖✖ (Moka), Wednesday, 12 October 2016 01:05 (seven years ago) link

I was the other vote for "Sixteen." Surprised that didn't get more love - it's awesome. And I was the other vote for "I'm Sick of You." Also surprised that didn't get more love.

I still wish there had been separate ballots for Stooges proper and Iggy solo.

lingereffect (Kent Burt), Wednesday, 12 October 2016 05:04 (seven years ago) link

I seriously underestimated New Values tracks myself been relistening in the context of Iggy's discography and it's actually a really cool album.

Am I the only one hearing a very open VU/Lou Reed influence on it? A track like Girls per example could easily come from his early albums.

dlp9001, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 16:46 (seven years ago) link

Fuck you're a right it would be 13 more votes to I'm sick of you. You sent me the track as 'Sick of You' instead of 'I'm sick of You' and yours was an early ballot so it got separated from the other two in the spreadsheet. :/

That vote would send the track up around 4 places at 38 or 39 instead of 42. Mmm will correct in the final wrapup for now let's pretend we're cool cool cool

We Will Fall was very high on my ballot, never understood the antipathy towards it

sleeve, Wednesday, 12 October 2016 20:19 (seven years ago) link

"We will fall" is good but it doesn't merit the 10 minute length. Iirc the original demo song was actually 3 minutes or so but when the label told them they needed more material for the album or they wouldn't sign they tripled its length.

it was my #13, one of my favorites outside of the classics

sleeve, Thursday, 13 October 2016 19:59 (seven years ago) link

Hahaha guys I'm unexpectedly busy this week with my bars / my wedding / my housing situation and I'll also be the emergency dj at a friend's party on saturday since the dj they hired bailed and its too late to find a decent one for a big party so I'm not sure I'll be able to post the full results on friday. Is it cool if I post on sunday?

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:01 (seven years ago) link

wedding?!? by all means, delay

sleeve, Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:05 (seven years ago) link

I mean my wedding is until March but weddings here in Mexico are big (many guests, like 10 hours minimum of dinner/party) and need more time to be planned. Mine will be 500 guests and its considered a 'medium' wedding. I envy the smaller weddings you seem to have in other countries.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:28 (seven years ago) link

So far:

The poll's #45 ("Girls") was my #5
The poll's #38 ("I Got Nothin'") was my #18
The poll's #35 ("Five Foot One") was my #2
The poll's #34 ("Repo Man") was my #6
The poll's #29 ("I'm Bored") was my #17
The poll's #26 ("The Endless Sea") was my #14

I didn't vote for any of the other songs so far, though I like a lot of them. Iggy's catalog is ridiculously deep.

Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Thursday, 13 October 2016 20:29 (seven years ago) link

I was p surprised at Search and Destroy at no. 1 tbh, but then I've never really liked either mix I've heard of Raw Power, they just make it a really unpleasant/frustrating listening experience.

Οὖτις, Monday, 17 October 2016 22:48 (seven years ago) link

When I think about it, the Spacemen 3 rip of TV Eye definitely had an influence on me voting it as high as I did.

dlp9001, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 01:24 (seven years ago) link

Also, did anyone mention the Jarmusch film? (I might have missed it upthread.) Too bad poll didn't coincide more with that...

dlp9001, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 01:30 (seven years ago) link

yea that footage above i hadn't seen before - one thing about that recent jarmusch doco that i thought was a bummer was - ok kool interviews and stuff but there seemed to be no new footage of primetime stooges that i saw - apart from the usual stuff

peanutbuttereverysingleday, Tuesday, 18 October 2016 06:26 (seven years ago) link

two weeks pass...

Saw the Jarmusch last night. Liked most of it, although I would have been more interested in 20 minutes on The Idiot and Lust for Life than the reunion stuff, even though I understand that it's a Stooges film, not an Iggy film. The Ed Sanders and Warhol anecdotes were really funny.

It was recorded in '75 and isn't billed as a solo album, so I think you're OK there.

"The Endless Sea" was a track that really caught with me in my couple recent listens to New Values. It might be the closest Iggy track to what it 'might' have sounded like if a collaboration with the Doors would have worked.

otm "The Endless Sea" -> "Five Foot One" is a great pair of tracks, can't help but think that Sonic Youth must have paid attention to that pair
