Well met good sir,

I also can verify that this is genuinely me. But I will not plead my case like a bleating lamb. For only the Oink Administrators have the wisdom of Solomon.

RichyGtwo, Sunday, 15 April 2007 02:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Alright we will leave this up to the OiNK admins. I would appreciate you not calling me a bleating lamb. I have every right to be furious at you and insult you but I am refraining, I would like you to show me the same respect. I am arguing for something I care for

RichyG, Sunday, 15 April 2007 03:11 (seventeen years ago) link

I've come to realize how this is fake and that you really don't have invites to hand out. the invite system has been "broken down" for more than 2 weeks and I'm sure OiNK would have that fixed as soon as possible if it did happen. Funny idea you guys had, but it should have gotten old about 500 hits ago. The joke's over.

And RichyG, the "oink administrators" are richygtwo. They don't have any invites to hand out and they never did. I doubt OiNK would put invites in the hands of degenerates like these guys.

Oh, Cat Power still sucks.

grandepois, Sunday, 15 April 2007 03:28 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear "RichyG,"

I think you'll find it's not uncommon for those who don't receive invites to air their grievances publicly.

"Grandepois" has a lot of valuable things to say, but those were in his application. All else is slander.

Please enjoy the invite sent to your second account.

Thank you.

Oink Administrator, Sunday, 15 April 2007 04:21 (seventeen years ago) link

Ah fuck, I knew this was fake from the beginning... but I figured it wouldn't hurt to try... just in case. I waited patiently for 4 days, but it's time to give up and go looking elsewhere. Have fun, "Oink Admin."

atomsforpeace, Sunday, 15 April 2007 04:46 (seventeen years ago) link

So this entire thing is a scam? Well, I did think it was "fishy" (har har), considering that their invite system "broke down" and that more than a ton of people applied and invites were going out...

and 23 invites since January, you guys must be fans of Blonde Redhead's latest album of Jim Carrey's cute little movie to pick such a random number...why should I care, either way I'm not part of this community. Tee hee.

crabcigar, Sunday, 15 April 2007 04:59 (seventeen years ago) link

Yeah, you've got to hand it to them though... most people wouldn't keep up a prank for so long. Their commitment is impressive, to say the least. A bit of a shame, some of the people on here were pretty cool. Crabcigar, let's start our own super-exclusive torrent site and IP ban Oink Admin. Haha.

atomsforpeace, Sunday, 15 April 2007 05:51 (seventeen years ago) link

atomsforpeace, Oink is not a pickup bar. Please take your flirting elsewhere.

Oink Administrator, Sunday, 15 April 2007 07:44 (seventeen years ago) link

Well, if it is a scam, I'd recommend that you guys search for Pedro's Tracker. Heck, I'll make it easier: Pedro's Tracker . I've not been accepted yet myself, but I'm sure a few of the smarter ones of us will get in. Good luck.

So are you saying your not going to invite me? Is this really a scam?

RichyG, Sunday, 15 April 2007 14:54 (seventeen years ago) link

It mostly likely is a scam, but who's to say? Either you wait an eternity and never get an invite or just drop the idea. Normally you'd have to go chat with the real OiNK people in the mIRC chatrooms; I didn't know that snooping through forums would do any good. Heck, check the 4chan forums if you have to, you'd probably find some gold here. My friend got through OiNK with a 4.0 ratio going on, not from here, but from an invite of another friend. Maybe I'll ask him to PM the real OiNK admins and bring this bootleg joint downtown to Chinatown.

crabcigar, Sunday, 15 April 2007 15:12 (seventeen years ago) link

That would be nice, maybe while your at it ask him to hook me one up :D
My real email is a few posts up

Dear "crabcigar,"

Funny that your friend doesn't have an invite to send *you*, isn't it?

Enjoyed your fishing tale though! Maybe next time you'll catch something!

Thank you,

Oink Administrator, Sunday, 15 April 2007 15:35 (seventeen years ago) link

Wait Oink Administrator, are you not going to send me an invite to RichyGee (at) gmail (dot) com?

RichyG, Sunday, 15 April 2007 16:06 (seventeen years ago) link

Im clinging to the hope that you did not scam me : /

Yes -- welcome to Oink!

Thank you,

Oink Administrator, Sunday, 15 April 2007 16:09 (seventeen years ago) link

Have you sent it? Its not in my Inbox or Spam folder

RichyG, Sunday, 15 April 2007 16:16 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear "RichyG,"

We have seen this scam before -- you cannot have two invites. There are only six left.

Thank you,

dear oink admin,
was i accepted or rejected, because ive waited for 3 weeks without a response.

Dear "RichyG,"

Is that a question or a statement?

I am trying to work with you here. Perhaps you need to think about making this easy on me.

Thank you,

Oink Administrator, Sunday, 15 April 2007 17:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Oh, I'll squeeze an invite out of him once his invites replenish. Don't worry about me, folks. I hope you enjoy your fishing excursion as well; catch some Sufjan-starved Christians while you're at it. But seeing how you're not getting anywhere with these scams, it's better to salvage yourself. After all, it is the Sabbath and you must remain holy, won't you "Oink Admin"? :)

And funny you were up around what, 4 AM in the morning, Greenwich Mean Time Zone, replying to posts on this forum? Isn't OiNK stationed in the UK? Who lingers around on forums so early in the morning when one should be patrolling fellow OiNK users and their activity, let alone, manage this up since January. I think we have a fellow American among us.

By the way, when you mention "six invites left", whatever happened to your invite systems being down? And then convincing others "There's plenty of invites left!"

Cute!!! ^_^

crabcigar, Sunday, 15 April 2007 17:11 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear "crabcigar,"

Things make more sense when you read the entire thread, instead of the parts of your choosing.

Also, I don't "patrol" fellow Oink users, Encyclopedia Brown.

2)Rockism is essentially a prejudiced attitude to any form of popular music that doesn't conform to the values of rock music (in the most narrow and conventional sense of the term). The most obvious example of this is the tendency of middle-aged fans of 'classic rock' to describe any music that involves the overt use of electronic instruments as not 'real music'.

4)To be honest they both dont match my style.I can ,though, recognize the quality in music when i hear it and i can say that both have some.I can not tell you wich one is better.I do like Sufjan Stevens
more though. He is more intimate and melodic.Deerhoof is more chaotic
and playful, more experimental which is nice if the result is good enough. In his case the result was good but not enough.

Sorry Oink Admin I wasn't trying to make anything hard on you, I was trying to be polite. I thought the statement "But I never got the first one." seemed blunt and rude so I just tossed a question mark in it lighten it up a little. Sorry.

This is what I was trying to say though. When I submitted my application I stated my email so that in case i made the cut for OiNK you would know where to send the invite. However my email did not register on these forums and it got cut out. Someone saw that and took advantage of it by making an imposter account (RichyGtwo) and giving a different email address. I was trying to clarify that this person scammed me and stole my invite. To avoid all risks of me trying to obtain multiple OiNK accounts, please cancel the account created by the invite sent to the imposter email, and please send me an invite this email address.

OK Richy,

This really isn't protocol, but you sound like a great guy and someone we'd really enjoy having in the Oink community. So I am going to re-send you another invite to ✧i✧✧y✧✧✧✧✧@g✧✧✧✧.✧✧✧.

Please understand that this is not how we normally operate. Your first invite was mailed to you successfully and for some reason you messed it up. I could actually get in trouble from my boss for doing something like this on a public forum, so I hope you are appreciative.

Please make good use of this second invite. We look forward to your contribution to the pink palace.

Regards,

Oink Admin

:-\ it sounds so fake now. You guys had your heyday. Let it go.

merzhin, Monday, 16 April 2007 04:57 (seventeen years ago) link

btw, if you guys have been in the forums around here, there's a fellow who calls himself 'Myspace Password Admin'. I think we have the same sort of impostor here. I've no doubt that this fellow has invites, but 'I could actually get in troube from my boss...' wtf? Not to mention the fact that Oink has no reason to solicit new members; private trackers that give out invites don't stay private too long.

You had me going there for a while.

merzhin, Monday, 16 April 2007 05:01 (seventeen years ago) link

a) requested username: sling_theory; or something that sounds faux scientific
b) first name (no surnames): dave
c) age: 27
d) gender: male
e) geographic location: Syracuse, NY...A frozen wasteland awaits.

1) The Robot Ate Me - On Vacation I & II
Odd Nosham – Le Mix Tape
Tunnel of Love – Rock’n Roll’n Bitches

2) The Fun Answer. Rockism describes that age-old situation of
You listen that blank band
, which is usually accompanied by a sour-face and a heavy eye role. The accused can either denied and lie out of embarrassment say
Oh, no, that album blank belongs to: my little brother, my ex-girlfriend, or my mom
, choice dependent on genre. Or the accused can stand up and retort,
Yeah, that’s my Pat Benatar album, I own it because Love is a battlefield
.

The Real Answer.
Rockism
is a hierarchical term coined by British music critics in the late 70s, it infers that Rock'n'Roll is superior to Pop Music, Hip-hop, and Electronic Music. It basically discredits Synthesizers, Sampling, Computer-Software as valid musical instruments. It's an elitist, narrow minded ideology, that attempts to hold onto a nostalgia of what it deems to be the
Golden Age
of Rock'n'Roll, the 60s and early 70s, of course. I don't think many musicians buy into the idea. New technologies are another tool in the toolbox of possibilities.

3) She looks so proper and out of place in a frame…Chan, your already art in my book.

http://bigscreenlittlescreen.net/2006/09/19/cat-power-meets-wong-kar-wai/

4) Hmmm…as a fellow Michigander, I should support Sufjan, but I have to go with Deerhoof, they just reinvented themselves. Friend Opportunity shows immense progress, its challenging, but the album was also a real gamble. Ever since the album Michigan, Sufjan’s been so self-absorbed. Illinois and its poor little cousin Avalanche are so monotonous. It's all Horns, Horns, Horns, synthesizers, Horns, synthesizers, Horns, Horns, rinse and repeat. Sometimes I think the release of Avalanche was just to paid the bills. And one album each state thing is hokey, it sounds interesting on 60 minutes, but maybe Arkansas doesn’t want there own album and maybe Delaware doesn’t deserve one. I shouldn't be a Sufjan hater, I enjoy some Sufjan occasionally, mostly the older stuff Seven Swans and Michigan. But, I have to give props to Deerhoof, its uncomfortable and exciting to work outside your own limits.
(No hard feelings toward any Arkansonians or Delawareans)

5) Just one for myself.

I assure you I am very real.

Myspace Password Admin, Monday, 16 April 2007 05:59 (seventeen years ago) link

I can only think of one reason why people keep submitting new applications: they are blind. As is evident from sling_theory's app, voice typing software still has a few bugs to be worked out.

atomsforpeace, Monday, 16 April 2007 06:58 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear "atomsforpeace,"

Perhaps the new applicants have heard about the site from friends who were actually chosen to receive invites.

Yes, it just boggles the mind sometimes, does it not?

Thank you,

Oink Administrator, Monday, 16 April 2007 09:50 (seventeen years ago) link

I'm not sure what that is

RichyG, Monday, 16 April 2007 10:01 (seventeen years ago) link

Dear "Oink Administrator,"

I have a number of questions for you.

#1

Got my invite today! Thanks!

-- chaki

A search for chaki shows no sign of an application ever being submitted. However, as the above quote demonstrates, chaki reports having received an invite and your response to this was, ":):) That's great news chaki! Welcome to our community! :):)" indicating that you do not see chaki as having misrepresented himself.

#2

As dthemora, a user who you said was approved weeks ago yet never received an invite, noted:

Oink Administrator (sanskrit) wrote: Confounded = Rejected

Confounded wrote: I got my invite very quickly here. Thanks Oink Admins!

Although Confounded replied with the explanation, "I got rejected the first time, but I didn't give up. Please don't call me a liar." a search for his name also finds absolutely no indication of an application. On the contrary, what it finds is a user "Oink Admin (Confounded)". Curious, indeed.

#3

Finally, it seems that there is no indication of anyone having ever submitted an application, being approved and then reporting successful retrieval of the invite.

Because of the aforementioned, you can no doubt see, then, how skepticism of the authenticity of this application process would come about. Indeed, since this is almost certainly a prank, I must comment that, while I admire your dedication at having kept it going for so long, had you had a few dupe accounts actually submit applications and then "get invites" it would've made things far more convincing.

Nonetheless, to be perfectly honest, I had never heard of either Deerhoof or Surjan before this, so while I am disappointed in the futility of my attempt at getting an invite, the bright side is that I got to broaden my musical tastes a little further.

Thank you,
