Yeah great match and resistance by Garcia - if only he could take that to a major win.

Classic Westwood. Only the tiniest sliver of hope for EUR, and he's scrubbing that out quick-like.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 2 October 2016 21:02 (seven years ago) link

enjoy your last few mins w the cup euros

johnny crunch, Sunday, 2 October 2016 21:03 (seven years ago) link

So EUR just need to win eight straight holes across three matches and it's retained, right? ;)

Michael Jones, Sunday, 2 October 2016 21:07 (seven years ago) link

One down, seven to go. (I may be a few mins behind)

Michael Jones, Sunday, 2 October 2016 21:09 (seven years ago) link

Lee Westwood really is the last player in the world you'd back at 2up after 15.

Michael Jones, Sunday, 2 October 2016 21:14 (seven years ago) link

westwood losing three holes in a row to lose the ryder cup. it doesn't get any better than that, folks

imago, Sunday, 2 October 2016 21:14 (seven years ago) link

Spottie, Monday, 24 October 2016 22:07 (seven years ago) link

Shouldn't that just count as a hole in one? The rules of this game are nonsense. Also, it's 2016 and there's literally millions on the line, they can't fabricate a flagpole from carbon nanotubes or something that's paperclip-thin and stays upright?

El Tomboto, Tuesday, 25 October 2016 03:26 (seven years ago) link

why would hitting a flag that's there to show you where the hole is count as a hole in one? there's nothing logical about that. the ball has to go into the hole, highly convoluted concept for the layman obviously, try to imagine if you can, the ball "disappearing" into a small circular recess in the ground known in golf as a "hole" - the ball has not become invisible, it has simply fallen into this "hole" - when it hits the flag it hasn't "disappeared" although it is close to the coveted circular recess.

five months pass...

Masters just a week away. Already stoked tbh. DJ obviously the best player on the planet right now. Spieth is great at Augusta and he's improved his approach shots this year but his putting has fallen off. Matsuyama was hot for 3 months but has struggled the last 4 weeks. Justin Thomas tore it up at the start of the year and can hit it a mile which is useful at Augusta but I've never seen him play a tough course well. Rickie Fowler won a couple of weeks ago but is a v aggressive putter especially from inside 10 ft which usually works out well but I'm not sure will at Augusta. Rory driving it as well as he ever has and has improved his putting over last year but still think his distance control with his short irons is p ropey.

I'll go for Phil to win (even though he hasn't won a tournament for 4 years) and Tyrell Hatton to finish top 5 (first timers don't generally do well at Augusta but he's a v good driver and a great putter). Rooting, as always, for Sergio. To no avail.

First women's major of the year starts today. Want In Gee Chun to win as she has the best swing in the world right now, male or female, imo. Just a joy to watch. Think Ariya Jutanagarn will probably win despite her whole 'no driver' deal, i guess when you can crank a 2 iron as well as she does you don't need a driver. If not her than Inbee Park owner of the slowest takeaway in golf, the smoothest putting stroke, and the serenest demeanour. Look forward to seeing Lexi Thompson take the biggest divots I've ever seen when hitting wedge shots accompanied by the most out of control footwork, shame her putting is so lousy. Lydia Ko won last year with the ice cold coolest of wedge shot's at #18. She's changed her coach, caddy, equipment, and putting stroke since then so....

the ability to call in and snitch on other players is probably the worst rule in any major sport

It's the best.

When football (real football, ie involving each) gets video refs I'm gonna start pushing for this next step

nobody has broken 70 so far...and the wind is only getting stronger.

tangent's boy rickie going well, as was thomas pieter's until he went bogey, d-bogey at the start of amen corner.

willett started with a double, somewhat predictably given how useless he's been in the last 11 months, reckon he might get done by his amateur playing partner today.

pandemic, Thursday, 6 April 2017 17:27 (seven years ago) link

adam scott's 4 ft putt for par blown by the wind before he putted to leave him with a 12 footer. lol.

So excited to start watching this when I get home. I have a genuinely good feeling about Rickie this time, founded on actual prospect rather than the usual mixture of lore and superstition.
