sorry guys, im not going to fabric again really. ive had enough. i loved magda when i walked in around 12.30 (fi it was her), for about 30 mins, but when i went back i just couldnt be fucked with it.

it soudns stupid but i just sort of resent the fact that to hear music i so completely enjoy, with such incredible sound, is just such an unpleasant place to be. i often look at people in fabric and only about 20% of people even seem to be smiling, or look like they are having fun. the rest are caught up in a maelstrom of pushing past, squeezing in, or just wandering around looking lost and defeated.

too many people last night i know, and it probably wouldnt be like that next time, but i just cant be bothered. everyone i know hates fabric, and i was the last cheerleader for it, i sort of liked the inhumanity of it, the machine like, unpleasant atmoshpere on the door and queuing systems, etc. but i think ive changed sides.

there isnt a solution really, i dont really think that fabric are to blame, if you have people queuing to get in at 4.30 having been there for 3 hours, then you are going to try and get them in for 15 pound a head. but i dont really want to be part of it.

sorry i didnt meet you toby, i left early at about 2.30, partly cos i was knackered from driving down, partly due to logistics with friends still in the queue. i appreciate that had i been i na better state i might have been better equipped to handle the crowds in the main room, but i still sort of feel "how on earth DO you have fun when all night, non stop, people are pushing past you one way or the other?", constant movement, not dancing, but just travel. i dont do any drugs so i wonder if that would take my mind off it, but whilst shutting my eyes and zoning out does help, and felt really good, it wasnt enough.

apparently matthew dear was firing, and i cant believe villalobos played that skream tune.

good to meet you marianna, albeit briefly. sorry it was a bit random to accost you in the middle of the busiest flow of people, but i thought i should say hello at least!

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 November 2005 12:07 (eighteen years ago) link

moral is: get there super super late. 4/5 maybe i guess. but im just too tired to handle that really.

ambrose (ambrose), Monday, 21 November 2005 12:11 (eighteen years ago) link

the weekend was super crazy with things happening, and fabric was one of the things to fall by the wayside, partly because i wondered if it was going to be super packed and busy, so ended up at a party in palmers green, which was quite good, but didnt really spark either.

next weekend i think i may go to this night of charlies,

i think there was talk of going to The End on one of the first two weekends of december, i would be up for that.

this talk of packedness seems a shame, i dont really like things to be all uncomfortable like that, space is pretty important

terry lennox. (gareth), Monday, 21 November 2005 13:51 (eighteen years ago) link

when we left at 7am you could still barely move in the main room and yet that was significantly more space then there had been earlier. like everyone said, music was great but the place also attracts so many wankers - people getting aggro when someone pushes you onto their feet, beery unpleasant lads on the pull etc. i think and hope that they'll go the way of Ministry unless they moderate the amount of people they let in...

i do LOVE the way they get you reasonably priced cabs when you come out tho.

i have to say that i feel the same way, except i think i'm prepared to give it a few more goes - the fact that it's not much more than 20mins walk from home makes it easier to bear, and i do like that not having to queue if you have a ticket makes it easy to get in.

i dont do any drugs so i wonder if that would take my mind off it, but whilst shutting my eyes and zoning out does help, and felt really good, it wasnt enough.

yeah, same here. plus i just don't feel comfortable closing my eyes for longer than about 30 secs.

moral is: get there super super late. 4/5 maybe i guess. but im just too tired to handle that really.

yeah, i was thinking that, too. it doesn't sound like that would have worked that well on saturday, though. i guess i could go to bed at like 9pm on a saturday, set an alarm for 4, get up, go down to fabric for a few hours... but do they even go on past 7 most times?

i wonder if people would pay more to get in if they lowered the numbers? i certainly would.

also, did anyone go to the aftershow on sunday? i've never been to one - maybe i should try getting some sleep on a saturday night and then going out on a sunday afternoon sometime?

toby (tsg20), Monday, 21 November 2005 17:15 (eighteen years ago) link

I would definitely pay 20 quid for fewer people, but tbh, there would have had to have been only HALF the number of people in there for it to be really comfortable on Sat. The wanker level seemed higher than usual as well, tho maybe that was just a factor of the packedness. I'll still go back, but not for another R+R night.

RickyT (RickyT), Tuesday, 22 November 2005 00:00 (eighteen years ago) link

ha, i'd pay 30 quid! i guess i'm probably in the minority though.

(btw ricky does that email address work?)

i may go to charlies thing later on, but i shall be at the medicine bar, shoreditch, first

i didn't know mayer had a residency! i didn't even go to lovelife cos it was cold, and at 12.30 i got a text from robin about stink :(

The Lex (The Lex), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 13:37 (eighteen years ago) link

I am still a bit broken from last Saturday, and it's my dad's birthday. A think a pre-Christmas QWI might be in order before everything goes mental.

four weeks pass...
21.01.06 at The End

BUGGED OUT!
The first Bugged Out! of 2006. Andrew Weatherall, Tomas Andersson, Erol Alkan and many many guests. Acid House

who's in?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 5 January 2006 12:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Me. Totally. Even if it is Trentemoller at The Key that same night.

Also why did no one tell me about Tiga at The End on 18th February? These are GOLDEN DAYS.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 16 January 2006 20:57 (eighteen years ago) link

I am considering it. Bangface has reactivated my raving hindbrain.

RickyT (RickyT), Monday, 16 January 2006 22:29 (eighteen years ago) link

i don't think i'll be out this weekend - stink on feb 6th is definite, though.

toby (tsg20), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 08:57 (eighteen years ago) link

Everyone who comes to Stink must come to Lovelife beforehand too!

2manydjs playing at the Tiga album launch on the 18th too.

Also early days but 20 May: Ellen Allien and Lindstrom & Prins Thomas at The End!!!!!

This weekend is going to be the hugest weekend ever. I can't wait.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 17 January 2006 12:41 (eighteen years ago) link

that was FUCKING INCREDIBLE.

raving crew, i salute you all.

The Lex (The Lex), Sunday, 22 January 2006 16:05 (eighteen years ago) link

Sorry for bailing at quarter past three. My knees were really aching and I couldn't take anymore. Still, bloody good show all round, what?

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 22 January 2006 17:37 (eighteen years ago) link

The lighting man was very good, wasn't he? That squealy noise all over Washing Up!

There was also a very weird moment when RickyT and I realised we were dancing to The Arcade Fire, in the middle of a house set. I didn't expect that.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Sunday, 22 January 2006 17:41 (eighteen years ago) link

:)

i miss you guys!!

geeta (geeta), Sunday, 22 January 2006 20:05 (eighteen years ago) link

We miss you too, dude.

Matt, I thought that was the Killers at first! Shows how much I'm down with today's modern indie music. Even if I was praising the new Arab Strap album in the pub beforehand.

Must remember to book the 7th off work tomorrow. That's going to be quite a big week, what with Bangface on the Friday as well.

RickyT (RickyT), Sunday, 22 January 2006 20:47 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm so glad I missed the Arcade Fire moment and that you lot didn't see me in Trash the day before my birthday doing pretty much what you were doing to it.

My god, that Royksopp remix. I DON'T KNOW WHAT MORE TO ASK FOR, I WAS GIVEN JUST ONE YEAR. Anna-Marie and Matt and I went completely. fucking. nuts to it.

And that stupidly insane 'Apache' moment! Jesus.

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 10:54 (eighteen years ago) link

what is lovelife?

i was disappointed that the record i really liked around 4am was NOT john starlight, as i had been led to believe

terry lennox. (gareth), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 11:29 (eighteen years ago) link

the next stink (feb 6th) is dj koze and damien lazarus. was thinking of taking tuesday off and coming down but will save it for a month where im not desperately tired

all ive got to look forward to is loco dice, but as its not london it doesnt belong on this thread

ambrose (ambrose), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 11:31 (eighteen years ago) link

Yeah, we've been emailing via MySpace. Do you MySpace? She just wrote us randomly after seeing what I wrote about her version of Dont Cha on my blog, and became our Friend.

I am going to find out what Lovelife is on the 13th February because we're apparently DJing there. So I can be even more confused, Anna and Marianna and Annemarie and Anna-Marie. I shall be DJ Marie for the night.

Trying To Resonate Concrete (kate), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 11:32 (eighteen years ago) link

lovelife is anna-marie's weekly residency in the 93 ft east bar, gareth - i think marianna and i bumped into you there once. you should come next monday cos i'm the guest dj. as should you, kate! you can find out what it is then.

i don't have a myspace, no, and am Holding Out because 1) i am on enough internet places already and 2) i don't like the layout. but if it means one gets to meet hott r&b stars it must be a good thing!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 11:39 (eighteen years ago) link

(i should point out that lovelife is 7-11pm and thus perfectly acceptable for a monday night: it's not a banging dancefloor thing though we have been known to do a spot of raving on the tables in the past)

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 11:40 (eighteen years ago) link

anna-marie is one of the ones that came out on saturday? i lose track. perhaps she was doing the lighting

i would like to go to this lovelife thing. so, i will. yes

terry lennox. (gareth), Tuesday, 24 January 2006 11:42 (eighteen years ago) link

anna-marie was the one with black hair and the gorgeous blue dress. she djs as token girl (and i am lex pretend)
