Thread for being unnecessarily hostile to people who hate power metal

I used to outright loathe power metal. But since I've started to listen to more and more metal in the past few years/started valuing escapism above pretty much anything else (in music), my stance has softened (er... hardened?) towards it as I probably listen to stuff that wobbles dangerously close power metal territory. Can't help but hate myself for that, just a little.

is hammers of misfortune power metal? new album is good

or is power metal one of those things like goth where no good band who is goth actually calls themselves goth and any band who cops to it probably sucks?

There's a pretty trustworthy regional divide in quality. US power metal is mostly pretty cool, because it's basically just plain old heavy metal. European power metal is the kind with giggly crackhead elf vocals, synth and a general sense that all the metal got sucked out of the equation.

No. Power metal is not fucking like fucking goth. Power metal is about well-justfied high self-esteem.

xpost: European power metal is awesome. Synthesizers in metal are awesome. Elves will kick your ass if they have to make a giant elf-pyramid to reach it.

Got the new Hammerfall album this week - they've switched labels, from Nuclear Blast to Napalm. First song on the record is called "Bring It!" and totally lives up to that title - chorus is a gang shout.

Oh, and to keep to the thread's purpose, anyone who doesn't like Hammerfall can catch a hammer in the teeth.

Gang shouting is the original and proper meaning of "chorus".

finally getting around to hearing Hammerfall (Glory to the Brave). this is my wheelhouse. I'm not into the proggier or the more ridiculous power metal, but the Maiden-y heavy metal stuff with soaring choruses and cheese-factor = my love.

what other stuff is worth checkin' out from this here genre

I guess I like Grave Digger now? I was sour on them at first cos I saw them open for Blind Guardian, and nobody was going to measure up to BG that night, but this is pretty fun stuff and it's not weenie-like.
