Dublin will hardly play that poorly in the next game

Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Sunday, 18 September 2016 16:10 (seven years ago) link

We'll hardly score two own goals

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Sunday, 18 September 2016 16:11 (seven years ago) link

In fairness Mayo deserve credit for not allowing the Dubs to play

Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Sunday, 18 September 2016 16:15 (seven years ago) link

Lads it's a slow study that will get excited about this. We're precisely where we were this morning, seventy minutes from either a humiliating or maddening loss in a croker final.

Mayo, God help us.

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Sunday, 18 September 2016 17:27 (seven years ago) link

Perennial sleeping giants and serial losing finalists Mayo take on Dublin tomorrow, 3.30pm. Beg, borrow or steal a stream, marvel at the brawn and desire of the amateurs on the park, ask yr friendly GAA posters what the hell it takes for a foul to be called, why hands are allowed and how knowing when to take yr point is a key cornerstone of malevolent irish rural psyche.

Enjoy the match. Boo the Dubs. Mayo, god help us.

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Sunday, 18 September 2016 17:28 (seven years ago) link

I was right, that said we threw that away. 7 minutes injury time was outrageous, Connolly sideline kick droppable offence, heinous, awful.

Worst Dublin performance in years, gotta feel Mayo threw that away tho.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 18 September 2016 18:10 (seven years ago) link

Perhaps as tv spectators the wet pitch and its effect is hard to understand - the quality was woeful.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 18 September 2016 18:15 (seven years ago) link

Agreed, though that would have suited us far more than ye. Dublin hardly set out to stop mayo playing.

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Sunday, 18 September 2016 18:47 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, my overall feeling, particularly in the weird moments after your first spell second half, is that the game was begging to be won, and some terrible attempts happened.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 18 September 2016 19:27 (seven years ago) link

Like holy Jesus it was there for Mayo, and not taken

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 18 September 2016 19:28 (seven years ago) link

It got very sloppy in the 2nd half, mistakes all over place yet it was fun to watch as a neutral all the same. Bernard Brogan was shite today

Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Sunday, 18 September 2016 19:32 (seven years ago) link

No way the dubs play as bad again, no way

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 20:05 (seven years ago) link

Congrats to them, I say

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Wednesday, 28 September 2016 20:05 (seven years ago) link

It's in the bag. They should pre record the victory speech

Jesus Christ we will always find a way to throw a final

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Saturday, 1 October 2016 17:13 (seven years ago) link

Were you at Croker, Darragh? Cos someone who looked like yrself in a grey hoodie and mayo jersey popped up on the telly looking glum on the 75th min there

Neptune Bingo (Michael B), Saturday, 1 October 2016 17:48 (seven years ago) link

Saw him but looked more like one of the omalleys from louisburgh

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Saturday, 1 October 2016 18:10 (seven years ago) link

I was gonna photo him! Had that exact thought. Dublin play with fear up front, like they get bollocked for shooting if the percentage isn't high enough, thankfully Costello hasn't been brainwashed like that. Also for a team that barely ever score goals we sure are obsessed with trying to engineer them. I know, moaning after we won two in a row. It was a stunning game.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Saturday, 1 October 2016 18:30 (seven years ago) link

Fully agreed, both last time out and today dub could have put the game to bed but we're holding back shooting from V reachable distance

Great game, no shame in losing it

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Saturday, 1 October 2016 18:48 (seven years ago) link

Gk decision couldn't have gone much worse but we were much better and it's probable that Hennelly s kicking was a factor in that so.....

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Saturday, 1 October 2016 18:49 (seven years ago) link

Imagine it went to extra time. Like that's prob a human rights abuse.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Saturday, 1 October 2016 18:58 (seven years ago) link

This time around the bench strength told. I'm still confused about it not doing so last time tbh.

Worthy winners and a truly great team tbf, can play a few ways and don't rely on one or two individuals.

Next year is our year

poor fiddy-less albion (darraghmac), Saturday, 1 October 2016 22:57 (seven years ago) link

the decision to change the keeper was remarkably bad. i guess rochford will still survive for next year though.

challops warning but, imo aidan o'shea is shit, he never scores, he is terrible at shooting, and for a big guy he actually ends up rolling around on the ground a lot and isn't actually able to batter through people, though he keeps trying. did he even score a point in either of the finals?

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 2 October 2016 08:13 (seven years ago) link

He's shit in this system, I don't think that's a challop. In a system that suited him he was imo the best footballer in the country. Both systems got us to finals but are p much radically different approaches to the game. Hard to say what fine margins could be eked out either way for the sake of argument really. When oshea was great we were the best footballing team in the country and should've won one. The past couple of years feel much more like an incremental gains systemic approach where we are predictable and consistent and as a result made a final this year that we might not have expected to.

Think there's definitely room to introduce more talent and intent in that midfield and not be so reactive, but the system is probably here to stay and that's likely due to gavins success in deploying the same method and attitude with Dublin imo, it's the current benchmark.

What's happened? Do you hate Tyrone when they're playing football or hurling, I can't remember? Or just in general?

weird echo of the falsies (Tom D.), Saturday, 22 July 2017 18:19 (six years ago) link

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 30 July 2017 16:22 (six years ago) link

It's a combo of being surrounded by shite, being the big player in the team, his own inconsistency and rarely doing it when it counts.

Overrated, yeah, at this stage.

Most ever? Ah now cmon.

jk rowling obituary thread (darraghmac), Sunday, 30 July 2017 16:26 (six years ago) link

he's just not good! he scored something like two fucking points in the entire championship last year. and he goes to ground a lot. i don't get the hype at all, he's nowhere near the level of a keegan or o'connor.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Sunday, 30 July 2017 16:30 (six years ago) link

you're definitely going to win this though

spillane exactly right, it was two teams who looked scared of going and winning it.

xpost agreed. it was exciting but the quality not good.
