Tower Falls is still my favourite Baroness song

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 15 September 2016 23:01 (seven years ago) link

I'll start about lunchtime I suppose but anyone got any hopes for the top 20?

Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 15 September 2016 23:13 (seven years ago) link

I hope To The Nameless Dead shows up again just for good measure

ciderpress, Thursday, 15 September 2016 23:30 (seven years ago) link

Fuck, I just had a nice post about listening to Darkspace III and my computer sent it to the frigid unthinkable expanse of the void. I like the album so far (a few minutes in) but I prefer Petrychor for black metal about the unbearable emptiness of space.

Tom Violence, Friday, 16 September 2016 03:24 (seven years ago) link

Was Petrychor not nominated at all? I would have totally voted for them.

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Friday, 16 September 2016 03:45 (seven years ago) link

I'll start about lunchtime I suppose but anyone got any hopes for the top 20?

I hope the top 20 is not just Yob's 8th album and Darkspace's 12th album and Jute Gyte's 25th album.

cookware regression (Dinsdale), Friday, 16 September 2016 06:45 (seven years ago) link

lunchtime where, Cosmic Slop? need to do some time zone math...

alpine static, Friday, 16 September 2016 06:51 (seven years ago) link

90% of my ballot has already placed, and only one more actually will. I have no idea what's going to be in this top 20! Looking forward to hearing ILM's favourite metal.

tangenttangent, Friday, 16 September 2016 08:19 (seven years ago) link

Top 20 predictions? what hasn't popped yet that definitely will?

alpine static, Friday, 16 September 2016 08:22 (seven years ago) link

popped *up*, I mean

alpine static, Friday, 16 September 2016 08:32 (seven years ago) link

Top 20:

the 2 best Agalloch albums
Gorguts
Weakling
50 more doom/stoner albums
no Thou yet so hopefully some (otherwise it's a travesty)
Ghost bleh
whichever Jute Gyte albums haven't showed up yet
some Dead Congregation hopefully
more Inquisition? seems unlikely
Isis
no Menace Ruine most likely
the best Peste Noire album has yet to show up so
more Krallice hopefully
I think we're done with Mastodon thank Satan
some big name like Slayer?
Svartidauði?

cookware regression (Dinsdale), Friday, 16 September 2016 08:37 (seven years ago) link

Dopesmoker, Dopethrone, other albums with "Dope" in the title

Neil S, Friday, 16 September 2016 08:46 (seven years ago) link

I'd like to think Keldian's Outbound would make it but a) ilx hates celestial equine supernova power metal, and b) more importantly, I fucking forgot to put it on my ballot

Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:22 (seven years ago) link

Colored Sands was my #2 because I'm not always riding the horse

Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:23 (seven years ago) link

yay for botanist!
love that record, think i was the number one voter

nxd, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:30 (seven years ago) link

Aw, that's a good number one. I love that album too.

Listening to Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde again and the track 'Ciel Errant' is actually the Dashboard Confessional song 'Vindicated'.

tangenttangent, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:54 (seven years ago) link

Don't think there's much left from my ballot that could place apart from Agalloch, Isis and maaaaybe the s/t Jesu album. Boris' Feedbacker could make it I guess.

I imagine Celtic Frost - Monotheist and maybe the other Triptykon will show up, Tom G Warrior always does well in these things.

Oh, I forgot Monoliths and Dimensions! That's got to place, surely.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:59 (seven years ago) link

No idea what #1 will be, kind of hope it won't be Dopethrone, am not the biggest EW fan and it'd be nice if is was something less retro.

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 16 September 2016 10:00 (seven years ago) link

*it

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 16 September 2016 10:01 (seven years ago) link

imagine there's another uncle acid album to place too

nxd, Friday, 16 September 2016 10:02 (seven years ago) link

Tom G Warrior always does well in these things.

As well he should.

Cosmic Slop, Friday, 16 September 2016 10:10 (seven years ago) link

I would think as far as Sunn goes that M&D is certain, and Kannon, Altar (with Boris) and White 2 might get a look in? Though my feeling is these latter three are all considered relatively minor?

Neil S, Friday, 16 September 2016 10:19 (seven years ago) link

He's someone I can appreciate but it's not really my kind of metal (xpost).

Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 16 September 2016 10:20 (seven years ago) link

I had better see some Anata in the results. I just realized they haven't shown up. But tech death, even if it doesn't sound like the usual tech death, may not do well here.

Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 10:53 (seven years ago) link

I'm listening to the Voice Of Steel title track again. Holy shit, this is (ignoring JG a second here) a metal-song-of-decade contender

imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 12:46 (seven years ago) link

Quindecade!

imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 12:47 (seven years ago) link

I'm partial to "Valkyrie," mainly for that guitar solo.

If you like that triumphant eastern euro pagan black metal I'm sure Siegbran can help; I'm not too keyed into the scene. I've heard of bands like Kroda and Temnozor but never actually listened to them.

Horn from Germany is amazing, though, but the production is a little ... fizzy.

Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 12:56 (seven years ago) link

oh for god's sake, I forgot to put Myrkgrav on my ballot too. One of the best albums of the 15 years for sure.

Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 13:01 (seven years ago) link

Was just about to say that Valkyrie is just as good

imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 13:01 (seven years ago) link

I can't remember who it was, but in the other thread someone said they really liked Vintersorg's Visions from the Spiral Generator, and I would highly recommend checking out that Myrkgrav -- or to anyone who likes high quality choral vocals and synths in jiggy pagan folk black metal.

Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 13:12 (seven years ago) link

Cool! Will do when I'm at home and can listen to Youtube again

Great band, great album

imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 13:19 (seven years ago) link

well there's the one that knocked Monotheist off its perch for best comeback albums, it's like Luc Lemay just invented a new musical language

Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 13:20 (seven years ago) link

I kinda apply that to Mayhem's Ordo ad Chao too, which is why those two albums are far ahead of anything else in my top 10

Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 13:21 (seven years ago) link

oh Myrkgrav have a bandcamp too, and I think he's coming out with a new and final release either this year or next

Brent DiCrescenzo's review to thread!

imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 13:49 (seven years ago) link

I haven't listened to this one in years. Would probably keep "Reflection" and "Schism". Coloured Sands is really good, though.

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Friday, 16 September 2016 13:50 (seven years ago) link

Yeah the final suite is ok to good iirc
