Still my fave Torche

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 17:44 (seven years ago) link

I think I missed immolation in the nominations spreadsheet bc that should've been in my top five and I totally didn't vote for it :(

It's terrifying!

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 17:49 (seven years ago) link

Woo, Torche! Hoping Meanderthal will crack the top 100.

Surprised this is so low though I think I ended up leaving it off my ballot

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 17:56 (seven years ago) link

i also missed bolt thrower somehow???? ugh

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Tuesday, 13 September 2016 17:57 (seven years ago) link

anyway that immolation album should be top ten on this poll, along with immortal. i have no idea what's going to show up in the top 100 lol

There's got to be more Electric Wizard and Mastodon coming. Trying to think of some ILM favourites who haven't had anything place yet. Isis?

Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:05 (seven years ago) link

Woo, Torche! Hoping Meanderthal will crack the top 100.

Same. If Harmonicraft was nommed I probably voted for that too (I can't check rn)

ultros ultros-ghali, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:07 (seven years ago) link

Isis and Mastodon are dead certs, or so I would hope.

Wow, glad you reworked the listings, now a bunch of my picks placed in respectable positions.
Do people really like Witchcult Today? I think of it alongside with Let Us Prey -- middling EW bested by their 2010's releases, but I guess it's really its pretty popular.

Frobisher, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:18 (seven years ago) link

The second track is great, not sure about the rest

Good album that I didn't vote for. Not sure why, really. The best bits are the theremin solos

imago, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:21 (seven years ago) link

Oh and since Rated R already placed I have to assume we are gonna have Songs for the Deaf still in the future.

Frobisher, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:22 (seven years ago) link

Or at least, they were done live with a theremin. (Outros of Like Music and Funebre)

imago, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:23 (seven years ago) link

MY favorite Ulver came out way before 2000, there was one I liked that came out just a few years ago but I couldn't remember which one.

Frobisher, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:23 (seven years ago) link

This is mellower and synthy, right? Another album that is in my iTunes library that I don't remember much about.

xps Huh, there are theremin solos?

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:24 (seven years ago) link

you liked this one iirc

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:24 (seven years ago) link

XXXP but didn't know it had theremin solos! I need to give it a listen.

Frobisher, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:24 (seven years ago) link

This is my favourite post-90s Ulver album and it featured in my top ten. So warm and enveloping.

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:24 (seven years ago) link

Lol, thanks for the reminder, CS.

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:24 (seven years ago) link

The two songs I mentioned are the standouts imo, Like Music especially

imago, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:25 (seven years ago) link

i was talking to frobisher! lol

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:25 (seven years ago) link

Xxxp

Listening to Immolation. I've not listened to anything like this in a good while. It is kinda terrifying,

I have Dawn of Possession on cassette. The most metal of all the formats.

Sunn O))) Brother Where Art Thou? (Chinaski), Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:26 (seven years ago) link

There's not really much between this and Blood Inside imo, may be slightly better infact but Blood Inside gets more props for coming first

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:27 (seven years ago) link

And for having better songs ;)

imago, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:27 (seven years ago) link

I think Electric Wizard - Witchcult Today is the best of their post dopethrone releases but theyve never released a less than good album. We Live is probably their weakest but they crushed on the tour for that album.

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:28 (seven years ago) link

Completely agree about EW. I would love to see them live.

shadows of the sun is amazing and i didn't vote for it either, lol. i just prefer blood inside that much, the compositions are staggering, like fifteen different kinds of music all being compressed into each other. shadows is in turn a gorgeous ambient-ish album with a really specific atmosphere i've never found in similar music

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:33 (seven years ago) link

it took me a long time to realize that i have zero use for reunion swans. a lot of super intense build but with what feels like no purpose

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:34 (seven years ago) link

I don't get Swans. Any of it. I don't think I ever will.

ultros ultros-ghali, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:35 (seven years ago) link

Robert Vigna of Immolation is one of those death metal guitarists that don't get their due -- he has some kind of hammering bending attack that doesn't sound like anyone else (I recommend watching any of their live vids to see what he does to his guitar).

Devilock, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:37 (seven years ago) link

Swans have moments of sound that are singularly wonderful, but they are never something that appeals for long. Whenever I hear them on the radio I'm pleased, but I would rarely seek them out.

tangenttangent, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:38 (seven years ago) link

Brilliant band and one of the few to comeback as great as they were when they left off.

Not very many bands do that.

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:38 (seven years ago) link

I do however get the feeling the latest Swans album will be ignored on ILM EOY poll and other magazines/sites lists due to non-musical reasons

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:41 (seven years ago) link

Let's not get into that here...

This was an EOY poll winner. For some reason

imago, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:53 (seven years ago) link

I revisited The Seer after sending my ballot, would've had it pretty high-up if I was voting now. Tried with To Be Kind again too but am still lukewarm on that one.

Shadows of the Sun is decent but I only really like the first Ulver album (many xposts).

Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:53 (seven years ago) link

Because it's really good, but all EW albums get overshadowed by a dope album

Cosmic Slop, Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:54 (seven years ago) link

What kind of radio plays some Swans?

cookware regression (Dinsdale), Tuesday, 13 September 2016 18:58 (seven years ago) link

KEXP! Also Bagel and another I can't remember the name of right now.
