I have been having my own little solitary Oktoberfest today while cooking a chilli today with a Bud Powell soundtrack. There is something about it getting darker earlier that I find oddly comforting.

october's my fav too. i'd "normally" be a winter-is-better-than-summer person but winter here is unspeakably awful because the air is a trapped layer of synthetically coated car exhaust that makes everyone sicker than they care to admit for three months.

when the air is clear and cold though, just after a storm, and it's night time and no one is outside, i'll take that over any summer evening with the possible exception of late spring when lilacs are blooming.

it's going to be 90 tomorrow but i won't let that stop me from making beef stew to celebrate september

it was 90 degrees with a dew point of 75 the other day and people were drinking pumpkin beer, fuck that

September is awesome. This is the time of year when people trying to get you to leave the house and go into the dumb outside slowly becomes less of a thing. Bring on the hibernation!

September in Austin has been mostly hot and dry, but we finally got some rain this weekend and lower temperatures.

Well, Nov-April is Minnesota's "hell on earth" for the next decade or two

I was telling a buddy how much I'd rather live in MN than MS and he said "spend a couple of weeks there in Dec/Jan before you make the move."

Dec/Jan is kid stuff ... try the existential dread that creeps in late April when the highs are still in the lower 40s

I don't turn our central heat on in the winter unless it gets below freezing and my office is 47-48˚ in the morning, so that sounds pretty nice.
