nine months pass...

Heard this on Don Lett's show last night and thought it was a Cocteau's sample. Listening again it doesn’t sound like them, any ideas what it could be?

I think it's Eberhard Weber?

Wow, brilliant spot. Thanks for that, would never guessed.

FWIW I listened to the Golden Rules album and it's well worth checking out, especially if you like a bit of fretless bass.

I've still not solved mine from six years ago, and the old link is dead. Coolbone, "Nothing But Strife" (Groove Mix by Guru.) Flute/strings sample at 00:39.

K-pop band MFBTY did a tune that samples some Konnakol

Hmm, not familiar with them. I was thinking someone more along like lines of Cornelius or Matmos maybe? DJ Shadow?

You might be thinking of Asa Chang & Jun Ray who use those bols in Hana at least

That's it! Thank you

15 years, i've been playing the game of this goddamn thread, 15 years!!

Karl, listen to “Hana” it’s cool

rob, Saturday, 22 May 2021 00:07 (two years ago) link

oh, actually i know that song (the Asa Chang & Jun Ray one)! i think it's on some ambient comp i like a lot. or...a playlist? i always wondered where the sample was from!

Karl Malone, Saturday, 22 May 2021 00:13 (two years ago) link

but i'm not sure i would have connected it directly to that video/performance. is it that specific one?

Karl Malone, Saturday, 22 May 2021 00:14 (two years ago) link

It's not that specific one. But I played that Asa-Chang and Junray record a lot and haven't thought of it in a long time.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 22 May 2021 00:19 (two years ago) link

I do wonder if I have heard that exact sample somewhere else though.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Saturday, 22 May 2021 00:20 (two years ago) link

damn, i am loving the album (Jun Ray Song Chang, by Asa-Chang & JunRay). "Hana" i somehow know very well from before, as i mentioned upthread. but i've never listened to the rest! "Jippun", in particular, reminds me (INCREDIBLY FONDLY) of hosono's Cochin Moon (and on that, "upper floor" but also other parts) as well warp stuff of that era
