I'm so glad this isn't getting frank ocean level attention the critical audience for thug is annoying enough

hard to decide if the fanboys or the old-head hater brigade is more annoying when it comes to YT

well i think we can agree there is always something to be annoyed about

this album has been smashing my brain in all weekend. between this and the new Rae Sremm, I'm spoilt for great trap right now.

the opening track, with the slightly reggae/basic channel undertone, is kind of a subgenre in itself

T/F: the Rae sremmurd is better

They're both great but this feels like a return to form whereas the Sremm is a steady but less commercially succesful development. I prefer this one, but yeah, the Sremm is getting slept on.

I've just had the two on constant rotation for the last week or so. very little time for anything else. I must have listened to Black Beatles/Wyclef Jean/Pick Up The Phone/Just Like Us about 40 times as a suite now. Just when I thought 2016 AOTY choices were down to slim pickings

ss3/im up didnt grab me but i dont think having a couple soso mixtapes really constitutes falling off its just like standard

i love the flow of the rs record, the way it begins as something and ends as something different. the thug tape i get new things out of every time i listen to it but it doesn't move in the same way. hard to say which i like more.

jeffery/SL2 are alternate dimensions imo but jeffery is the more interesting dimension

i definitely find SL2 more interesting/unique but obv you're talking about a concentrated punch of creativity doled out once per year, when you compare their catalogs its no competition

but SL2 is still >>> jeffery imo

idk ive come around on raeS but theyre still kinda pop toys on some level, i mean the songs r perfect dont get me wrong

It's not that Thug fell off, it's that his projects have felt aimless since B6. This one has purpose, and also it doesn't sound like any of the other projects. Not like Rich Gang, not like B6. (Any song on ss1-3 + i'm up could have gone on any of those albums.) Hence return to form.

i dont really hear much more going on below the surface *on this tape* in thug than w/ swae lee & slim jimmi tbh

um thug has gravitas + is a wellspring of genuine culture

yeah but again i dont really hear that on this tape mainly it feels like a love letter to his beloved & the various ways hes going to show that love mainly physically

again he's the greater Artist but i don't think this album is really showing some unforeseen depths of personality or something

slime 3 stands out as being really punchy and fun whereas the others seem more like a cross between the minimal/subdued style of B6 and what he was doing before. I can't really tell the difference in style between SS1, 2 and I'm Up but SS3 is much more immediate

i don't really understand anybody's rankings of his recent solo projects. SS2 was my favorite of the longer 2015 ones and I'm Up has been my favorite of the shorter 2016 ones, will never understand the reverence for B6. Jeffrey is pretty good but a Thug project with zero London beats could never be my favorite.
