Because of my schedule last week, XT-002 is the only boss fight in the courtyard that I've done; 25-man Flame Leviathan and Razorscale were downed on a night I couldn't go (they skipped Ignis) and the 10-man pug I did picked me up after the courtyard had been cleared.

So, I know the fights inside Ulduar but I don't know the first few, lol.

he must be bored up there alone in Icecrown waiting for people to come knocking on his door.

i am not looking forward to the big room of trash of which you speak.

srsly, we screwed up the initial pull and our main tank (pally, 43k hp) got 2-shotted

shit is INTENSE

I have to say, though, that so far I am pleased with the difficulty level.

haha yeah, as one guy said on Vent last night, "It's been so long since we've had to use our brains on these fights!"

for us it's the first time we've been in a raid that hasn't been on farm forever. there are strats online, but they still have holes in them - no real optimal way of doing everything yet. it's nice being able to figure them out together.

Have any of you tried the heirloom stuff yet? I'm trying to decide if it's worth it since, essentially, you're buying one heirloom for one character (unless you decide to make multiple characters that wear DPS cloth, or agility leather, etc).

Mordy, Wednesday, 27 May 2009 19:16 (fourteen years ago) link

I haven't, mostly because I haven't wanted to buy leet gear for my shaman with my priest if my priest can't mail it to him.

Also I stopped levelling my alts about a year ago.

I bought two pairs of shoulders (plate and mail) and the axe. I sent them to an alt and transferred the alt to a different server to play with some family members. Leveling is so fast I can't even tell how much the 10% experience thing is helping. My motivation to level an alt is almost non-existent at this point. Been playing for years. It's mostly just something to do while chatting.

also woot 4/5 T8.5 + first 25-man Yogg kill this past Thursday ^_^

get money fuck witches (HI DERE), Monday, 22 June 2009 16:12 (fourteen years ago) link

I need to join your guild :/ I can't even get my guild to do Sarth 10-man. I've been PuGing everything (as far as finishing a 25-man Naxx). I'm also one Malygos kill away from getting my Champion of the Northern Wastes title.

Mordy, Monday, 22 June 2009 16:42 (fourteen years ago) link

I would have that title but for some reason it didn't count my heroic Mal'Ganis kill.

btw, I am also 3 mounts away from an albino drake ^_^ ^_^ ^_^

get money fuck witches (HI DERE), Monday, 22 June 2009 17:18 (fourteen years ago) link

Grats on the Yogg kill! We've been struggling with that fight. It's really highlighted the weaknesses of our guild. Unfortunately, we're a pretty "casual" guild, with a lot of friends and family, so benching or booting people isn't a realistic option.

slugbaiting (rockapads), Monday, 22 June 2009 18:33 (fourteen years ago) link

We beat the enrage timer by I think 3 seconds, lol.

We stalled for a month when two of our 3 main tanks decided their band was more important than raiding (which I fully endorse btw). It's kind of amazing how much they've nerfed some of the fights (ESPECIALLY XT and Kolo); some of the ease now is knowing how to play them but we reliably do both of those every week without anyone dying, which was just not the case when the dungeon first rolled out.

My new goal is to finish off the Argent Tournament achievement before 3.2 comes out; only have Darnassus to go! Oh, and I have to duel someone but that's basically "hey guildie, let me beat you for this easy achievement lol".

get money fuck witches (HI DERE), Monday, 22 June 2009 18:55 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah it had been a point of pride that we stayed ahead of the nerfs, but I think they hotfix nerfed Yogg since we first started (the MCs in phase 1).

I haven't taken much interest in anything outside of raiding, so I haven't really messed with the Argent thing. Do you get something cool if you finish the achievement before 3.2?

slugbaiting (rockapads), Monday, 22 June 2009 19:41 (fourteen years ago) link

eh, I don't know, I just wanted to do it (mostly to get the exalted rep for cheap mounts towards my lovely albino drake)

Just got Exalted with Wyrmrest last night (which gave me the Northrend Vanguard achievement). Think I should spend the 1k to buy a Wyrmrest mount?

gabb 'bag (s1ocki), Tuesday, 23 June 2009 17:36 (fourteen years ago) link

question, can you see other players who are not in your guild? can several guilds fight the same monster at once? does it feel like you exist in a world where everyone else is playing (at least on your server) or is it just your guild vs the NPC world?

gabb 'bag (s1ocki), Tuesday, 23 June 2009 17:36 (fourteen years ago) link

You can see the rest of the world outside your guild. You can also join with other guilds to down a monster. A guild is actually more of a non-ludic organization. You could easily play the game and never join a guild -- it is primarily an organizational + social + communication tool.

Mordy, Tuesday, 23 June 2009 17:46 (fourteen years ago) link

It is totally a world where everyone else is playing; as Mordy says, you can go your entire time without ever being in a guild (in fact, most of my characters aren't in guilds).

get money fuck witches (HI DERE), Tuesday, 23 June 2009 17:49 (fourteen years ago) link

We finally got Yogg. I really didn't expect the fight to be so hard walking into it. It wasn't as hard as Vashj or KT was back in the day, but it gave us a hard time. Probably took us a good 20 hrs of raiding to down him. What finally seemed to do the trick for us was cutting back to five healers.

mr. me too (rockapads), Monday, 29 June 2009 05:35 (fourteen years ago) link

I wasn't able to play at all this week so I don't know if my guild downed Yogg again, plus I'm taking an enforced mini-break to focus on other things (like Fallout 3, lol) so I'll probably miss out again this week.

Vashj and KT were RIDICULOUS.

but do big monsters/quests regenerate for anyone who wants to do them? if you wanna take down a certain dragon and somebody else already is fighting it, do you have to like queue?

Michael tapeworm much talent for the future (s1ocki), Sunday, 5 July 2009 13:42 (fourteen years ago) link

It depends on where the dragon is. If it's a world boss, you have to wait for it to respawn. If it's in a dungeon, your party gets its own copy of the dungeon to play in so there's no waiting.

I am taking a self-imposed break from raiding and levelling an alt; I've got my scrubby lowbie mage up to 13.

but how's fallout 3 going?

thomp, Sunday, 5 July 2009 14:41 (fourteen years ago) link

I saved Megaton! Too bad about the sheriff, though...

It's a fun game and not nearly as punishing a shooter as I was afraid it would be, which is A++++++

ha, i am about to do the same thing. i've been trying to level this hunter for years (was like the 4th char i created) and i've finally made some progress.

s1ocki: the main emphasis is on instanced dungeons now. i guess the world bosses were causing too much problems with safe faction griefing and whining, etc.

mr. me too (rockapads), Sunday, 5 July 2009 17:36 (fourteen years ago) link

i just started fallout 3 but i'm not really wanting to open the thread and find out a bunch of stuff i have yet to do. as with everyone else i seem to have gotten as far as megaton on the main quest line and gotten distracted for 10-12 hours doing side quests

also i only just started doing FPS stuff in the actual FPS way, rather than hiding behind cover and popping out and using VATS. it feels a bit like mass effect if it weren't broken

FYI. this game is really hard to quit when you raid with real life friends.

Yeah, so I am getting screwed out of raiding by work and by real-life commitments, boo.

I WANT MY TIER 8.5 SHOULDERS TOO ;_;

(ps: for those who didn't know, the end bosses of the major dungeons have been leaning on some serious Lovecraft-inspired insanity; this current one has this amorphous octopus of insanity named Yogg-Saron who will make your character go crazy and start killing teammates if you stare at him for too long)
