"Safety" is an excellent album, although "Bring Me Closer" is probably his best song.

But yes, the album is worth getting.

Mundane question: where are people getting hold of this (in the UK)? Impossible to obtain according to Boomkat (and a few others).

[davis appears on the swayzak album, apparently]

New album on the way: titled: Details

Also download free mp3 track: honest with you from the album.

The track sounds very Junior Boys to me.

One of the tracks samples the toms from "Sound of the Crowd"

I can't wait to hear the new album, it should be ace.

gawd, did i--one year ago--actually say i piss myself when i hear his Safety disc. whoa. i meant, i really, really like listening to it, with no bodily reaction other than maybe a steady head-nod

Thanks for the link! Really digging this track.

Okay, the new record is REALLY good.

Junior Boys comparison reasonably on the mark. I am really in the mood for this right now.

I mean, its more of the same (as Safety, I mean), but just...fuller and more propulsive. I'm confused as to why Bring Me Closer is included. Does it not predate Safety?

Bring Me Closer came out a year after Safety!

"The Truth" might as well be the sequel, it's got the tradmark combo of reverse strings/druggy vocals.

new record's incredible. i love it.

geeta, Tuesday, 7 June 2005 13:46 (eighteen years ago) link

i found the new one to be very bland on first listen.

tricky (disco stu), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 14:11 (eighteen years ago) link

which was very disappointing because i love safety and "bring me closer" was one of the best moody gothic disco house singles ever.

uniformity is a dangerous game to play

strng hlkngtn, Wednesday, 8 June 2005 10:42 (eighteen years ago) link

damn i meant to listen to this last night, but i got caught up in listening to old house tracks...that's kind of what i'm getting at, strongo. safety has so much more vibe (or "social energy" to steal vahid's term) than this one. maybe it's a warm v cold thing i don't know. i will listen again. i have had too much on my mind lately to really just sit, listen and enjoy music and only music.

tricky (disco stu), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 13:32 (eighteen years ago) link

verdict: it's a grower like swayzak's loops from the bergerie was. my initial impression of the swayzak album was very similar to this and now i think it's really fantastic idiosyncratic record. everything. is. so. precise.

tricky (disco stu), Friday, 10 June 2005 13:15 (eighteen years ago) link

new album takes a few plays before it seduces you.

bring me closer is one of the best singles ever, any genre.

dh, Thursday, 16 June 2005 10:47 (eighteen years ago) link

heh.

I keep hearing a snippet of "In The Air" on some BBC between programme segue.

fandango (fandango), Thursday, 16 June 2005 11:47 (eighteen years ago) link

i do love this album, but by the end the minimal materials used in its construction do seem to wear themselves out slightly. (before "bring me closer" redeems the whole thing.)

It is absolutely fantastic, it just took a long time to learn to love it as an album - best to listen to individual songs at first, and then come back to it as an album.

This guy is nothing short of awesome, and frankly, the world needs a shot of Richard Davis in the arm.

I curse the fact I own nothing of his.

EDB, Sunday, 13 December 2009 20:40 (fourteen years ago) link

Dunno. But there should be one ...

djh, Monday, 14 December 2009 12:51 (fourteen years ago) link

Richard Davis is TERRIFIC, he has great hooks. It is too bad his name is so bland. He should change his name to Richard Davis Mellencamp so we can find his music online. Also, I can't find "Safety" anywhere, I wish it were on mp3.

What happened to this guy?

licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 13 April 2015 11:59 (nine years ago) link

He's been putting out a small number of EP's over the years on various labels and provided vocals for other people's tracks (seems like a pretty regular collaborator for Swayzak). Would love another full length, though I've never heard Safety despite (still) playing the hell out of Details so I should probably get to that first.

willem, Tuesday, 14 April 2015 14:01 (nine years ago) link

always wonder what happens to these guys - as far as i can tell he wasn't a young buck 10 years ago - so did he just go back to an office job?
