Don't know what label, unfortunately. Personally I much prefer 'Northern Britain' to 'Howdy!',. Funny that.

Yeah, same here - "Northern Britain" is a real comfort music record for me.

i prefered howdy. i'm excited about this - john mcentire might secure the feature that they wanted with howdy - i.e. to be similar to 'the left banke'.

one year passes...

TFC are supposedly due back in the studio in Spring - surprising, after the usual 5 year wait wasb expected, but also the first full 'solo' album from a member of TFC is soon to be released:

Two Lines is the opening song from the Lightships album 'Electric Cables' which will be released on Geographic on the 2nd April 2012.

Lightships is the new project from Gerard Love of Teenage Fanclub.

Electric Cables is an album of tender, observational songs, played with an invigorating and easy sense of purpose; the sound of friends enjoying one another's company and allowing ideas and experiments to flourish. It's a complex and rewarding record that you'll want to keep coming back to. Slow illumination.

^ felt similarly about a few of the other songs released ahead of Endless Arcade, but "The Sun Won't Shine On Me" is lovely and got me interested again. Turns out the album holds together well, I'm enjoying it quite a bit already.

Yeah, I think “hangs together well” is a good description. Listened to it a couple of times last night and enjoyed it quite a bit. Works as a whole for me. Reminds me a little of ‘Man Made’ in places. I like it more than ‘Here’.

I don't know why but hearing Norman singing about his marriage break-up seems more heartbreaking that coming from anyone else

PaulTMA, Sunday, 2 May 2021 12:55 (two years ago) link

i just saw they released a new album Endless Arcade, very excited about this new fact.

xpost yeah ... Norman is in a dark place on this record

agh, i really didnt enjoy this and i feel bad after listening to it (because of the lyrical content).

im a big "gerry guy" so i didn't really expect to love an album after he left the band tbh
