Really cool to hear the crowd noise side-chained to the kick drum

Super interesting. loved this episode. the crowd noise trick is pretty genius. she seems so driven in her (weird) ideas. pretty inspirational.

& u never get sad & u never get sick & u never get weak bayBEE

le Histoire du Edgy Miley (difficult listening hour), Friday, 19 August 2016 05:50 (seven years ago) link

um it's "u never get sick we're DEEP / in the belly of the beat"

MatthewK, Friday, 19 August 2016 06:11 (seven years ago) link

oh so it is

you scared me tho i thought i'd made up you never get weak

le Histoire du Edgy Miley (difficult listening hour), Friday, 19 August 2016 06:15 (seven years ago) link

they way she sounds in her lower register for "in the belly of the beat yeah" always struck me as a very kate bush moment

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Friday, 19 August 2016 13:07 (seven years ago) link

ha, my correction was incorrect, sorry

MatthewK, Tuesday, 23 August 2016 07:26 (seven years ago) link

I was bummed her song wasn't actually in Suicide Squad.

Pentenema Karten, Tuesday, 23 August 2016 20:12 (seven years ago) link

time to sue Warner I guess

MatthewK, Tuesday, 23 August 2016 21:49 (seven years ago) link

Well it wasn't a blatantly obvious and overused music cue, so of course it wasn't used.

MarkoP, Tuesday, 23 August 2016 21:56 (seven years ago) link

Lol... I mean they had a forgotten Eminem single in there fer chrissakes.

Pentenema Karten, Tuesday, 23 August 2016 22:53 (seven years ago) link

without me is not "forgotten", it is one of Eminem's best-selling and most enduring singles.

ælərdaɪs (jim in vancouver), Tuesday, 23 August 2016 23:07 (seven years ago) link

Why you looking for a harmony?
There is harmony in everything
It’s a butterfly whose wings span the world

Dude! This album has been such a slow burner for me and I've only just started to embrace the non-singles after the poll last week. This is a gift!

yeah, what a nice surprise!

does anyone have any thoughts on HANA? 3 of the 7 new videos are hers, i guess

I look forward to hearing from you shortly, (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 5 October 2016 19:20 (seven years ago) link

fuck buying tidal for a music video tho

Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 3 February 2017 04:41 (seven years ago) link

I tried most of the big streaming subscription services in 2016 and... Tidal's pretty good? idk, everyone loves Spotify

mh 😏, Friday, 3 February 2017 14:33 (seven years ago) link

when i looked at tidal last year their catalog was tiny compared to spotify, they had well under half of the stuff in my main spotify playlist. maybe its expanded now?

ciderpress, Friday, 3 February 2017 14:37 (seven years ago) link

Spotify has the worst sound quality of all of them. Apple Music is p good

Ah, the time of year when I can listen to this without feeling any weirder than I already do for listening to it in the first place. Love this song.

I have to admit, with no offense to the Grimes family, when that Ajit Pai video came out last week, I was like "why does this guy seem so familiar? Oh yeah, Grimes' step-dad!"

how's life, Saturday, 16 December 2017 21:58 (six years ago) link

lol wtf seriously?

flappy bird, Saturday, 16 December 2017 22:10 (six years ago) link

dope song!

love the video

niels, Sunday, 17 December 2017 09:45 (six years ago) link

Ha, I'd missed that Christmas track. Nice.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 18 December 2017 13:21 (six years ago) link

Wait Ajit Pai is Grimes step-dad? I can’t find anything on google confirming this.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 18 December 2017 16:17 (six years ago) link

No, I just meant he looks like it in the video. Indian man wearing sunglasses indoors while smiling eerily and waving a weapon around.

how's life, Monday, 18 December 2017 16:20 (six years ago) link

also, just for clarity's sake, by weapon I'm referring to the hatchet in the grimes video and the nerf gun in the ajit pai video.

how's life, Monday, 18 December 2017 16:22 (six years ago) link

Really hope the new One kicks ass so ppl will admit the last one was eehhhhaaaite

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 26 December 2017 00:38 (six years ago) link

yeah because the massive amount of enjoyment I've had from that album would somehow be invalidated by her releasing another great record

attention vampire (MatthewK), Tuesday, 26 December 2017 00:51 (six years ago) link

The release of Art Angels is the best thing that’s happened in the past five years.

treeship 2, Tuesday, 26 December 2017 01:05 (six years ago) link

if the new one sucks there is no chance d-40 will admit art angels was a radiant masterpiece, so I think we all hope it's good

ogmor, Tuesday, 26 December 2017 15:06 (six years ago) link

only thing approaching Art Angels for me the past few years is the Fever Ray s/t

omar little, Tuesday, 26 December 2017 18:27 (six years ago) link

Visions >>>>>>>>> Art Angels. Not holding out much hope for the next one.

pomenitul, Tuesday, 26 December 2017 18:30 (six years ago) link

my take is
Art Angels >>>>>>>>> Visions

we should poll

ANU (sisilafami), Tuesday, 26 December 2017 18:36 (six years ago) link

Visions revealed a promising artist. Art Angels made good on that promise.

Moodles, Tuesday, 26 December 2017 19:24 (six years ago) link

art angels is alllllright imo, kind of feels like she's dodging the spotlight but not in a way that feels confident or purposeful

its a progression from visions but i think visions promises a lot more, or contains more potential in its dna

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Tuesday, 26 December 2017 19:27 (six years ago) link

i agree. i like art angels a lot, but the 3 year gap between albums compounded the disappointment... it really sounds like she skipped an album in between the two, which we know she did... there's a dearth there, despite both albums being great.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 26 December 2017 19:37 (six years ago) link

Crystal ball desserves more love

kolakube (Ross), Tuesday, 26 December 2017 19:37 (six years ago) link

But albums are brilliant and Grimes rules. If the new album is half as good as any of them we’re good. Frankly a bit afraid it might not live up to expectations, no idea how you can follow up and improve on what she has done so far.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Tuesday, 26 December 2017 20:47 (six years ago) link

i revisited art angels the other week and i’m sorta with deej. only about half of it really hits imo (kill v. maim, pin)

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Tuesday, 26 December 2017 20:50 (six years ago) link

yeah both albums are great but there's one missing in there. it's hard to explain but her catalogue feels weirdly sparse & empty, the leap from Visions to Art Angels is too big and incongruous, it feels like the third album in a trilogy and Visions the first.

flappy bird, Tuesday, 26 December 2017 22:04 (six years ago) link

iirc grimes' evolution in sound between visions to art angels was partly due informed by her live touring
