Not sure why there was so much obfuscating of Jon's father's name in the Tower of Joy scene (thought it all seemed pretty obvious) since the HBO website has confirmed it.

One thing I did ponder: was the wildfire cache always under the sept like that specifically, or did someone move it there?

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 30 June 2016 00:23 (seven years ago) link

thanks gukbe

trayce, that cache was there from before the show even started - it was placed at the orders of the mad king, and his intent to use it (along with other caches around town! still there, presumably!) was why Jaime got the nickname

El Tomboto, Thursday, 30 June 2016 00:25 (seven years ago) link

Also I have to assume Qyburn and his birds had to knock open at least a couple of bricked-up passages to find that shit, if it were as easy as they made it seem in the episode, somebody else would have discovered it in the intervening period (at least 20 years in Westeros-time)

QUESTION: how do GoTverse people measure years if winter isn't annual?

El Tomboto, Thursday, 30 June 2016 00:28 (seven years ago) link

Oh I knew the cache had always existed under the city, I just wondered if it had always been conveniently under the sept.

Stoop Crone (Trayce), Thursday, 30 June 2016 00:32 (seven years ago) link

..but if theres more than one cache that would explain it dur.

calstars, Thursday, 30 June 2016 01:32 (seven years ago) link

so I guess the maesters at the Citadel got some astronomy going on and are checking the angles and shit

if that's the case and they have knowledge reaching back centuries or even millenia, couldn't they just be like "yo this is going to be one of those zombie seasons"
actually nevermind I know how this shit works out, once they built the wall, anybody who wanted to bring up "zombie season" was told to STFU or we can enroll you in a nice community college for animal husbandry, you savvy?

El Tomboto, Thursday, 30 June 2016 01:37 (seven years ago) link

i was thinking the maesters dont really have any idea how bad the winter will be just like the farmers almanac

lag∞n, Thursday, 30 June 2016 01:39 (seven years ago) link

It's called THE WALL son it does what WALLS DO, STOP THINGS do you know how much that wall COST it will NOT FAIL it does what it says on the tin and THEN SOME if you mention whatever that thing you just said again I might have to just make you the new maester for the dreadfort, working for boltons, DO YOU UNDER STAND

El Tomboto, Thursday, 30 June 2016 01:39 (seven years ago) link

So the burning of Stannis' daughter held off winter just long enough for Jon Snow to take Winterfell. Good job Lord of Light!

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Thursday, 30 June 2016 01:44 (seven years ago) link

BTW, a nice touch in the last episode was how they showed us all these white birds flying out of the Citadel, as Sam and Gilly are arriving, and then showed one flying towards Winterfell a little later, and then finally reveal the significance as Sansa and Jon are finishing up their chat on the parapets.

El Tomboto, Thursday, 30 June 2016 01:56 (seven years ago) link

surprised she didnt make that argument xp

The librarian in that scene was Frank Hvam, very locally famous Danish comedian. Weird casting for a lot of Danes.

Frederik I can't believe you didn't bring up the best cameo of the season, native son Frank Hvam as the Citadel's receptionist

See you in 2021 for season 7!

Van Horn Street, Monday, 4 July 2016 21:35 (seven years ago) link

I found the conversation upthread about whether or not GoT is fantasy mostly quite clueless. It is definitely 100% fantasy. It has a somewhat different and rather more interesting approach to character and morality to most of the Tolkien-esque heroic fantasy from which it draws, but that doen't make it not fantasy by any means.

Anyway, killer finale.

chap, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 08:33 (seven years ago) link

different but 100% the same makes sense

lag∞n, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 13:05 (seven years ago) link

Yes, it actually does. You build a house out of vinyl, it would be different from all other houses, but still 100% a house.

Frederik B, Tuesday, 5 July 2016 13:11 (seven years ago) link

would sound better than other houses
