Thanks Evan. Feel much better now :)

so they revealed Jon Snow's parentage but did it in such a way that i wonder if the significance of his father was lost on the majority of the audience. i said this several seasons ago probably but i really think they dropped the ball on the backstory elements. i still support flashbacks. Rhaegar is barely a presence at all in the show.

ryan, Monday, 27 June 2016 15:30 (seven years ago) link

it's already established that ned is his father. the show jumped forward 9 months after he arrived at the tower.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 27 June 2016 15:32 (seven years ago) link

lol

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2016 15:33 (seven years ago) link

can't believe they used a third actor for ned stark as a dad. or a fourth or whatever it was.

just a lil wink n a nod to fans of the first season

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2016 15:36 (seven years ago) link

tho nothing like jon snow, still it was a nice touch. fathers become sons.

xpost yeah those who noticed v pleased

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 27 June 2016 15:37 (seven years ago) link

i think they kept the paternity vague on purpose. presumably there will be a pt 2 reveal that will be more deliberately expositionary wrt rhaegar. otoh, if this was supposed to be the full reveal then yeah they fucked up.

Roberto Spiralli, Monday, 27 June 2016 15:38 (seven years ago) link

they are prob getting away with a lot due to fans reading up on the internet.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 27 June 2016 15:39 (seven years ago) link

she whispered something we couldn't hear, seems p intentionally vague, tho i don't know what the purpose of that vagueness would be unless we have a big sean bean reveal coming next season

not sure if it's been mentioned but the music in this ep was really good

its all obvs foreshadowing to when jon is riding his dragon and yells at danny "hey theres winterfell" then leans over to get a better look and falls off crashing through the castle all the way down to the crypt where he lands in neds tomb and one of the dire wolves is there but it takes off its face to reveal arya who says "thats his dad"

I do gotta say, credit to writers/director for at decent misdirection in the Arya/Walder Frey thing. For just a minute I thought that Jaime, sufficiently disgusted at the idea that he and Frey are anything alike, had enlisted the help of the girl with the come-hither eyes to get shit done. It's actually funnier now to realize that Arya was looking at Jaime like HOLY SEVEN I MAY GET A TWO-FER HERE.

Jaime playing Barney Stinson to Bronn's Ted Mosby also A++.

cersei with all the power she wants but absolutely nothing to hold onto it for other than a lifetime of accumulated rage is gonna go really poorly for king's landing for all of like, 2/3 episodes before it no longer matters and dragons burn the city to goddamn ashes lol

the scene was almost awkward. i thought she was going to hug him. or kiss him on the top of the head.

also wasn't she furious with him like one ep ago?

xpost

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 27 June 2016 16:23 (seven years ago) link

She didn't seem to be as furious as he thought she would be. So I think it's something he expected that wasn't actually the case.

She's sitting on the throne now but again, how is she in any position of power really? I mentioned earlier her extremely limited potential armies. Her being crowned just doesn't seem to be that significant at all to me given the scene of Dany's giant army AND the scene of the North uniting under Jon. Unless something truly surprising happens in her favor, the scene had pretty much no weight as far as I'm concerned. I was watching it like "OK, and?" It's not like she can just hide a bunch of wildfire underneath her enemies as per needed. Her significant secret weapons are literally Qyburn's Sunday School class and one large zombie bodyguard.

Evan, Monday, 27 June 2016 16:42 (seven years ago) link

i understand why /she/ thinks she has power, if only because she didn't believe in the dragons when she heard of them two or three seasons ago and has since forgotten about them most likely bc she's never been much for looking ahead at threats, she's a live in the moment person

wonder how jaime is gonna feel about her once he realizes she's m/l responsible for not only tommen's death but also their uncle kevan lannister, who jaime had no beef with

felt like he felt appreciated for who he was for the first time in his life, a kind of love maybe but not romantic

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2016 16:56 (seven years ago) link

i appreciated the finale executing a bunch of characters but i half expect them to come back as green fire zombies or some shit

goole, Monday, 27 June 2016 17:01 (seven years ago) link

My point was more that the audience shouldn't be very intrigued by this development. The fact that they (the Lannisters) are broke never got resolved either afaik so there's really nothing going for her. I guess she can finally go after Snow White now that she has the right outfit for it.

Jaime perhaps is likely more rattled by the fact that she actually carried out the thing he explicitly stopped by killing the last person that threatened to do it, however more isolated it was (Mad King was trying to blow up the whole city iirc)

wouldnt be surprised to see some sort of jaime-cersei murder suicide in one of the final two seasons

Zombies are strictly a north of the wall thing and Mountain is more Frankenstein's monster as the one exception south of it.

jaime-cersei def got some unfinished biz and ya cersei is super weak but i dont think she cares shes on some hedonistic death cult shit at this point

lag∞n, Monday, 27 June 2016 17:10 (seven years ago) link

on the real tho i wonder if jon's resurrection will be cost-free or if he'll start to rot like benjen

benjen's statement that the wall has great magic to keep zombies from passing seems to obviate a lot of problems, idk

goole, Monday, 27 June 2016 17:11 (seven years ago) link

She may not care but what can she possibly do. Shouldn't take too long for the united armies of the South and East to sail directly to King's Landing so there isn't much time either.

xp

Evan, Monday, 27 June 2016 17:12 (seven years ago) link

i hope jon rots and his face falls of then a dog eats it but the dog takes off its face and its arya and she says "just havin a laff love" and then they both laugh and the place where jons face was is oozing puss and blood which just makes them laugh harder then danny looks at them with a super haughty expression and they stop laughing but only for a second
