thank you brad b/c i didn't think anyone else was listening

she was extraordinary live on saturday night; took us to church in particular for "i can't feel god anymore", and "fall into my arms" as encore was transcendent. people were singing "once" back to her which shocked her a bit i think, in an endearing way. i feel like that all she needs is some non-australian publications to take notice of her before this really blows up.

initially dismissed "cruel" as the weak link on the album, but the more i listen to it the more impressed i am by the way the track builds and the guest male vocalist's (also her producer) credible paul buchanan impression

I need to hear this.

Okay I totally love this album.

she's great! hope she tours......

I think this is AOTY contender for me.

Tim F, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 08:51 (seven years ago) link

same here. unlikely to eclipse the 1975, but....idk

i think it was actually "cruel" that crystallized my love for this record. it moves like a decayed scritti politti song

"I can't hear God anymore" kinda remembers me tweet's "drunk", dunno why tho. They put me in the same state of mind.

Nourry, Wednesday, 29 June 2016 22:50 (seven years ago) link

the whispered backing vocals on "cruel" sound SO much like jessie ware. odd coincidence that the 3rd track on ware's own sophomore album was also called "cruel"

Great album, will listen again.

Only Aussie gigs announced so far, three this week and two in September/October.

i wasn't taken with the album as a whole, but "diggin" is sublime.

Wozniak on Kimye's Baby (jaymc), Friday, 14 October 2016 04:30 (seven years ago) link

the raves in this thread make me want to go back to the album, tbh.

The production on this is really good but Ngaiire is such a subtly wonderful performer, her voice is full of cracks and bends that really sell this. This is definite AOTY materal.

Ngaiire performed a new song called "Closer" live on the radio today, just accompanied by a pianist - you can hear it here at 2h18m or so: https://radio.abc.net.au/programitem/peE3nRlYX3?play=true

In between now and the last posts in this thread she's had her first baby. I think there's going to be a new album this year; looking forward to it, obviously.

Keen for new material.

I never mentioned in this thread but I ultimately saw her play live at Gaytimes Festival this time 2 years ago and she was fantastic.

Tim F, Tuesday, 12 February 2019 02:00 (five years ago) link

That’s very good news, looking forward to hearing her new stuff. I’d been wondering what was going on with her. I actually dreamed about her after reading monotony’s post earlier. It was super nice!

(all I could hear on that link was a news broadcast btw)

breastcrawl, Tuesday, 12 February 2019 07:17 (five years ago) link

even this week i remembered her record, that i love. such good news.

Nourry, Tuesday, 12 February 2019 09:13 (five years ago) link

xp yes she was appearing on a news show to promote an artist development program she's involved in. But you should be able to hear the song if you skip ahead to the very end of the stream. Her voice sounds O_O as always

I like it, though the vocal sounds a bit... tentative? It’s very much a continuation of Blastoma. I’m hoping for new approaches from her as well.

thanks for posting! i’m out of town at the moment and haven’t had the chance to listen yet. she had to cancel the tour she had planned because of covid-19 so give her an extra stream or 10!

The album is really wonderful. no moments quite as heartstopping as "once" or "fall into my arms", but it's very consistent, and i'm looking forward to spending more time with the new songs in particular

Hopefully playing in NZ soon! monotony, have you caught the live show over yr way?

etc, Sunday, 10 July 2022 23:24 (one year ago) link

Not as yet, but I think there's a show in September I might try and get to. I've probably seen her about 5-6 times, and every time i'm completely wowed by her vocals. If she's in your vicinity I definitely encourage going along!
