if I were Ramsey I'd probably just let loose a dog at the appropriate moment

I think as far as any of this stuff goes, the show apparently burned through the books faster than a lot of fans (and certainly GRRM) expected/planned. Now they don't necessarily have a lot of time for the details the books are famed for, which I guess can be bundled into bad writing, or maybe just bad planning, as they now have to almost prematurely wrap it up, or at least set it toward its endpoint, which is why the show these past couple of seasons has felt like a film with lots of useful scenes cut for time, or why the timeline of the show has been unclear enough that a lot of fans apparently think Sansa is pregnant with Ramsay's child. On the plus side, they did get rid of a lot of the much-mocked sexposition, even if they lingered a bit too much on omg Ramsay is torturing someone!, or subplots that didn't really get the setup they deserved/needed (Dorne RIP, man in tree, Iron Islands stuff).

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 14:37 (seven years ago) link

forcing Ramsay to take the black would have been a lot more interesting imo

, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 14:39 (seven years ago) link

So this blog suggests that everything is likely to go very dark again in the next episode. Seems... not improbable:

Ramsay as lord commander of the night's watch taking on the white walkers would have been an interesting final season plotline. Maybe the books will go that way.

It's likely Sansa will have the choice of marrying LF or dying

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 14:48 (seven years ago) link

It's think it's prob. more accurate to say that GRRM knew how quickly the show would go, but thought he'd get the last two books out by now, since he is phenomenally terrible at gauging how quickly he writes them.

Why would Sansa have any idea that Littlefinger was on his way? Isn't the simplest explanation just that Littlefinger and his knights showed up (unnanounced) at the Starks' base camp where Sansa was waiting (not for Littlefinger, just for the battle to be over, regardless of its outcome), whereupon she was like "The battle is going down right now, let's go!". Littlefinger, Sansa, and the knights of the Eyrie all charge to the battlefield and that's it. Why does any any pre-existing conspiracy/communication between Sansan and Littlefinger have to enter into it?

Dan I., Wednesday, 22 June 2016 14:51 (seven years ago) link

(I resisted engaging in all this pedantry as long as I could)

Dan I., Wednesday, 22 June 2016 14:52 (seven years ago) link

Because wasn't there pre-existing conspiracy/communication between Sansan and Littlefinger?

xpost I dunno, when I read things from people who know the books well, like Ask the Maester, they do seem to comment a lot about how fast the show moved through the stuff in the books. Or I guess to put it another way, they probably could have taken their time more with the show and gotten another couple of seasons out of it.

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 14:53 (seven years ago) link

it doesn't. also yes, lf wants to marry sansa not kill her on cersei's orders. he doesn't give af about the queen and tommen is gonna be dead next week anyway so it's not like cersei has any weight to throw around.

my only GoT disappointment so far is zeppelin isn't still around to record a song about it. don't get all the hate. it's like people complaining the NBA playoffs are rigged. no one's holding a gun to your head saying 'watch or else!'

if we're following the trend of the season so far (ladies pulling the rug out on pompous dudes), Littlefinger will try to pull some shit, thinking the little Arryn kid and the Vale army are his protection, and Sansa will just have him shanked right there because 1. Arryn boy likes pretty lady better than uncle baelish 2. Vale army works for Arryn, not Baelish 3. there's a whole bunch of stabby people who work for her brother who owe *her* a favor; not Baelish, which is another reason to have kept that under her sleeve AND to have shown up just when all was lost.

and then the other half of the ep is Cersei blowing up King's Landing because of all the firebombs hidden in the metro tunnels that nobody noticed for 20+ years... OH MY GOD THIS SHOW IS DUMB YOU GUYS

my predictions for the finale:

Arya, in disguise, kills somebody (Frey?)
Tommen dies because of Cersei
Sansa agrees to marry LF
Dany betrays Theon and sis and allies with Euron
Varys shows up in Dorne
Jon says dumb stuff, is declared king
Bran adds L to S
Walkers arrive at wall, blow horn, wall falls down
Sam looks at book, gapes in horror/awe

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 18:50 (seven years ago) link

Wonder if anything will come of Arya wondering about what's west of Westeros. Doesn't seem like there's time for her to travel that far.

Robert Adam Gilmour, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 18:57 (seven years ago) link

Bran adds L to S

lol new math

what does this mean?

ryan, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 19:03 (seven years ago) link

Arya is going to Oldtown next, I bet.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 19:09 (seven years ago) link

No no Arya shows up in Dorne & party wipes the Sand Snakes

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 19:15 (seven years ago) link

Arya is looking for a boat back to Westeros, and guess who rows up to give her a ride, but her old pal Gendry!

sarahell, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 19:17 (seven years ago) link

Going to Oldtown is like a euphemism to explain dead pets to kids.

"What happened to Snickers?"
"Oh, he went to Old Town."
"Will he be back with a diploma?"
"Oh, I don't know. Maybe one day ... "

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 21:33 (seven years ago) link

Sansa didn't tell Jon Snow about Littlefingers army because if he'd known about it, he'd prepared for it, and then the climactic rescue wouldn't have been so dramatic.

Ramsay shot Wun Wun instead of Jon Snow because Jon Snow won't die again until the endgame, and the showrunners still wanted him to shoot something.

Rickon ran in a straight line because otherwise he wouldn't have been hit by the arrow, and what were they going to do, write more scenes for him?

Daenerys waited until morning to save Mereen because it would look more filmic in daylight.

Etc.

I really don't know why I bother pointing this out, but Jon Snow and Sansa arrived at Winterfell from the Northwest, while Littlefinger's troops arrived from the Southeast, so why would they just happen upon the base camp without knowing there was a battle going on, or why would they not have scouts out, or...

Oh, never mind. D-40, it's okay. You can think it's the most brilliantest written show on tv, you can have that opinion. I will continue to disagree.

Frederik B, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 23:28 (seven years ago) link

How do you figure that their troops attacked from those directions? I think I need to rewatch that scene. I know Jon's troops were coming from the treeline on the north or west but that's about it.

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 23:43 (seven years ago) link

let's take a step back and chill guys. no need to get sassy.

ian, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 23:46 (seven years ago) link

pretty sure those troops arrived from craft service

Salsa Golf (Argentinean Ketchup) (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 23:47 (seven years ago) link

I would assume that Littlefinger approached behind the treeline on the southwest to avoid his troops being seen. The south and east is pretty clear and flat. If he approached behind the treeline he would likely find the basecamp while bringing his troops around to the east flank imo

reggae mike love (polyphonic), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 23:49 (seven years ago) link

we know she sent him a letter. what other 'conspiracy/communication' was there?

Didn't they also meet in person (communication), and didn't she then lie about, or keep secret, what she learned from that meeting to Jon (conspiracy), that he had offered to send the Knights of the Vale?
