Jaime's and Cersei will kill every child in the world to benefit their family. Tommen is keeping peace. It's not an ideal peace,'but I'd rather live under the Faith (which the people share) than see the city burned to satisfy an aristocrat's ego.

that seems like a really reductive reading of both's approaches to ruling

Well yeah. The first three books are some of the most tightly plotted popular fiction I've ever read, leading up to the Red Wedding as the end of Act I. Both the books and the show have been stuck in the baggy middle ever since. I'm hopeful things will pick up once we hit Act III.

i was pretty annoyed that we had another five minute scene of tyrion trying to bide his time with drinking and trying to get those other two to laugh. grey worm "making joke" was like

inexcusable scene. i get that it was all wind-up for "up on the roof there arose such a clatter" but sheesh.

I figured they were trying their best to humanize the Daenerys storyline characters using Tyrion.

something about the actor's portrayal of grey worm bugs me. I get the point of the stiffness but it feels overplayed. what's-her-name isn't great either but she's one of the best looking people on tv so it's slightly less annoying.

Grey Worm bugs me because he's so skinny and weak looking.

they should have made him dark and damaged and a little dangerous but he's kind of a robot puppy at this point.

I actually like this about him. It's just been too long since we've had an opportunity to do what he does best (which is not sit around a throne room making eyes at Missandei - Tormund could give him some lessons on this.)

He's always had that build though. I just never could believe he is a super soldier that probably trained his entire life.

when that fleet showed up in mereen i was sure it was going to be the greyjoys but nope, more dudes in golden robes. i guess maybe episode 10 will be when they arrive and lay waste to the slavers, helped along by the dragon? a nice way to show their bonafides and get daenerys to westeros. and maybe next season we could have a sweet swashbuckling sea battle between yara/theon and euron. or maybe that'll precede their arrival in mereen. idk.

the first time varys and theon and grey worm hang out is gonna be awkward.

yeah definitely think the greyjoy's will be showing up and probably trapping that fleet from any means of escape.

there are lots of probs w/ GoT but so many of the nits picked here are .... not correct lol

That line of succession stuff is interesting but the show hasn't done any work setting up that scenario. I think its far more likely, if Tommen does die, that we'll find out that Margery is pregnant. We did recently see her talk with the High Sparrow about an heir.

And that line of succession post was written before Tommen kicked Jaime out of the Kingsguard ... so he would, in fact, be next in line. Still, even if she is "pregnant" someone would have to rule in the meantime.

the word "game" the title refers to the various characters and their incessant striving for power - not a game in the traditional sense eg chess/tennis but akin to a game in that they are "competing" against each other to rule. a much more serious game when you think of it this way.

The British always referred to their wars in Afghanistan as 'The Great Game' or at least in the 19th century.

strictly speaking it should be called:

"game" of chairs

this would make it clear it's not an actual game and that a throne is a chair.

I think at this point it's obvious the makers of the show don't really want it to be "clear" per se

It's amazing that it was commissioned and produced and maintains a strong viewership really, being as it is a series of near-random weekly vignettes featuring photogenic actors interacting in ways nobody quite understands

I've not seen much fully-blown sociopathy from him lately, other than the fact that he's leading an army and in that context you do have to kill people occasionally. There are probably like 15-20 bigger sociopaths in the show.
