Bolivia is the Turkmenistan of South America

pratt truss it (dan m), Wednesday, 15 June 2016 02:38 (seven years ago) link

nb I do not actually believe that

pratt truss it (dan m), Wednesday, 15 June 2016 02:38 (seven years ago) link

I do like how the Brazil and Paraguay coach firings have kind of laid to rest the "are these teams taking this seriously" questions

pratt truss it (dan m), Wednesday, 15 June 2016 02:39 (seven years ago) link

actually looking forward to the US match tomorrow. be nice if we didn't fuck it up

Neanderthal, Thursday, 16 June 2016 02:00 (seven years ago) link

Yedlin's suspension is going to be an issue what with the Valencias running the wings. I'm expecting them to switch Johnson to the right and put in Castillo on the left. Enner has been huge for them throughout the tournament, he's leading in basically every offensive category.

pratt truss it (dan m), Thursday, 16 June 2016 04:51 (seven years ago) link

yeah...I'm worried about it, too. part of me was all "oh just happy to be here" until Brazil was no longer our foe. now it's like, this is one we should win (not that "should" means anything with the US).

I'm still so surprised at John Brooks. wasn't that long ago that he was getting called out for his sloppy play in the Gold Cup. amazing what a solid club season (and some stability in lineups from Klinsman) can do.

Neanderthal, Thursday, 16 June 2016 04:54 (seven years ago) link

Yeah I can see him making a big move in Germany this year, especially if he plays well in Europa League.

Great article on Brooks I read yesterday: http://americansoccernow.com/articles/thomas-rongen-recalls-bringing-john-brooks-to-u-s

Well alright

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 01:58 (seven years ago) link

Holy shit

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 02:01 (seven years ago) link

Brooks playing out of his mind other than that last play. Wood a solid half.

Backline looks reborn after last year. But...bending way too much in the latter moments. Starting to make some of the dumb midfield giveaways of 2015.

Still....damn.

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 02:25 (seven years ago) link

Bedoya was huge that half. If he'd scored he'd be an all time hero.

pratt truss it (dan m), Friday, 17 June 2016 02:30 (seven years ago) link

Yea that sequence was great even if it didn't pay off.

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 02:37 (seven years ago) link

I would not mind watching the US lose 3-0 to Messi next week.

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 02:38 (seven years ago) link

Say what?

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 02:48 (seven years ago) link

The fuck did Jones do?

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 02:48 (seven years ago) link

hit a guy in the face

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 02:50 (seven years ago) link

Ahh saw it.

Well we are boned if we get to the semis without wood

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 02:53 (seven years ago) link

And lots of other yellow cards on the field- four at least, sounds like.

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 02:53 (seven years ago) link

So yeah.

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 02:53 (seven years ago) link

BOOM

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 03:00 (seven years ago) link

+4 more minutes of this

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 03:26 (seven years ago) link

to endure

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 03:26 (seven years ago) link

Good luck, boys! You'll need it.

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 03:30 (seven years ago) link

Wow. Nothing pretty about that half and we are still like the janitors of soccer but damn I'm still stoked.

We will get smoked by Argentina but I'll take it

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 03:37 (seven years ago) link

So this tournament is no extra time, only penalties, but maybe you already all knew this.

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 03:40 (seven years ago) link

Jones, Woods, Bedoya all out, but Yedlin comes back.

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 03:41 (seven years ago) link

yeah which is why I didn't want it to end in a draw. feels wrong to go right to penalties w/out extra time (I am ok with the whole golden goal that FIFA decided to get rid of tho)....

extra time comes back in the final right?

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 03:54 (seven years ago) link

yup - http://www.sbnation.com/soccer/2016/6/16/11959940/copa-america-overtime-rules-extra-time-penalties

so this could be Colombia or Mexico/ARgentina possibly.

would be hilarious if Venezuela won

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 03:55 (seven years ago) link

The Final has extra time, but the Quarters and Semis don't.

pratt truss it (dan m), Friday, 17 June 2016 04:11 (seven years ago) link

Apparently there is a red card appeal process but I doubt it'll work out if tried.

Venezuela has been the surprise of the tournament, imo: just missed beating Mexico to win the group, conceded 1 goal in the first round (but only scored 3).

pratt truss it (dan m), Friday, 17 June 2016 04:12 (seven years ago) link

with that new rule it's pointless for Jermaine.

even w/ nobody suspended the US wasn't winning that one, hopefully we'll just give a good ride. gutted for them not being able to be on the field tho.

i'm amazed there wasn't a yellow for the stuffing the ball into the player's chest by Ecuador on the sideline. ref started to lose control a bit at that point

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 04:23 (seven years ago) link

Did I hear there is an explicit hand to face rule?

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Friday, 17 June 2016 04:37 (seven years ago) link

apparently.

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 04:38 (seven years ago) link

doesn't seem to be an explicit hand to groin or hand to any other area rule tho

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 04:38 (seven years ago) link

lol I missed the last Chile match ....they gave up TWO to Panama?

Neanderthal, Friday, 17 June 2016 05:23 (seven years ago) link

first one, which was the opening goal of the match, was a goalkeeping mistake by claudio bravo, who let a weak shot from distance trickle in the net.

2 hours until chile v mexico. i fear this will be the end of the tournament for my beloved andean rascals, but should be an entertaining game for sure, 3 goals or more p much guaranteed.

The Nickelbackean Ethics (jim in glasgow), Saturday, 18 June 2016 23:51 (seven years ago) link

Are you watching this game now?

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Saturday, 18 June 2016 23:52 (seven years ago) link

Second half would be looking a lot more intriguing if the guy had made the penalty.

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 19 June 2016 00:02 (seven years ago) link

Leo just tied Batistuta for most international goals for Argentina.

Cry for a Shadow Blaster (James Redd and the Blecchs), Sunday, 19 June 2016 00:29 (seven years ago) link

im not watching the game right now as both games are pay per view on my cable package and im contenting myself with some mls right now before paying for the game i really care about

The Nickelbackean Ethics (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 19 June 2016 00:42 (seven years ago) link

first one, which was the opening goal of the match, was a goalkeeping mistake by claudio bravo, who let a weak shot from distance trickle in the net.

thinking of this again: think both of the goals were goalkeeping mistakes (can't remember that well only watched the highlights).

hilarious how much a game in the u.s. is a home game for mexico, could hardly hear the chilean anthem.

The Nickelbackean Ethics (jim in glasgow), Sunday, 19 June 2016 02:11 (seven years ago) link

lol yay Chile. I hate El Tri so damn much

Neanderthal, Sunday, 19 June 2016 02:31 (seven years ago) link

well, mostly their fans. when I was at their match against Panama in the Gold Cup last year I saw two Mexico fans get in a fight *with each other*.

really glad they didn't call a penalty on that one stumble in the box, did not want a repeat of #noerapenal

Neanderthal, Sunday, 19 June 2016 02:31 (seven years ago) link

they sell Ochoa wigs

Neanderthal, Sunday, 19 June 2016 02:31 (seven years ago) link

this is hella slander, u will not besmirch chicharito, carnál

6 god none the richer (m bison), Sunday, 19 June 2016 02:36 (seven years ago) link

I'm still mad that the Chicharito to Orlando City rumors never panned out.
