That was a very soft penalty. MLS refs :/
Bolivia had their chance to equalise tho, jesus.
Chile live to fight another day, theyre not going to do too well this tournament based on what we've seen.

Here comes the CONCACAF filth

on the one hand, it's nice to not watch a complete bus park fest. Panama is obviously raw and lack technical skills but they're fairly good athletes with some speed and sometimes they overachieve through sheer will.
But they're also flop artists and much like Bolivia, their defensive strategy is jumping on opposing players' backs and wailing away.
also lol was that five yellows in fifteen minutes?
p much don't see anybody who's taking down Argentina in this tourney unless Mexico keeps form, but Chile could always regain their form - they just got deflated after the equalizer and were facing a team playing for a draw for 75 of the 90 minutes. Brazil scoring 7 on Haiti is indicative of p much nothing but given who has been bounced already they'll probably go far enough.
lol another yellow

as far as Penedo, I heckle him every time his punk ass comes to Orlando.
$132 might have been worth it to see Messi except what's the point of putting him in if they rack up a multi-goal lead. possibly just to tune him up but they could just as easily do that in the next match.
a lot of money for something that will only occupy two hours of your night

no flow to this shit at all. this is turning into last year's Gold Cup
Godoy deserved that shit. this is goonball, not football.

― Neanderthal, Saturday, 11 June 2016 02:16 (seven years ago) link
Good question. The immediate name that comes to mind is Bedoya, I remember reading that MLS lowballed him on a contract and he went to Sweden instead, then on to France etc.
― pratt truss it (dan m), Saturday, 11 June 2016 02:21 (seven years ago) link
I'm sure there are more. Probably mostly Liga MX players?

I keep hoping Larin will eventually become the complete package in Orlando but I feel like he's gonna get poached away by Europe long before we'll ever find out.
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 11 June 2016 02:24 (seven years ago) link
garbage first half. shoulda saved the Arg-Chile group match for later, just diminishing returns for that group until the elimination round. tho the Chile-Bolivia 2nd half was entertaining and crazy as hell.

due to the fact that Chile is playing Panama next, unless they underachieve against them too, I'm not sure if Chile even needed tonight's win to advance. hurts from a moral victory standpoint but Bolivia weren't advancing whether they got 1 point or 0.
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 11 June 2016 03:24 (seven years ago) link
HAHAHAAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAA
oh take that Panama.
messi is...really good at soccer
― 6 god none the richer (m bison), Saturday, 11 June 2016 03:24 (seven years ago) link
yes announcers we know the score isn't indicative of that match, but come on, Argentina's not used to playing the bitch-assed soccer that Panama plays, with the frequent muggings and floppings, all of which breaks up the flow.

― Neanderthal, Saturday, 11 June 2016 03:28 (seven years ago) link
I'm not sure if Chile even needed tonight's win to advance
mostly due to goal differential, that is.
― Neanderthal, Saturday, 11 June 2016 03:30 (seven years ago) link
xp Monterrey Security are complete hamfisted jackasses when it comes to pitch invaders... either the invader gets to run around in circles while their guards stand around mouthbreathing, or the guards absolutely shitpaste the invader and beat him up on the sidelines. I've seen both happen multiple times, never just quietly shepherding them away.
― pratt truss it (dan m), Saturday, 11 June 2016 14:26 (seven years ago) link
When Montreal came to town to play the Fire, a guy ran out on the field in the second half, took a selfie with Drogba, then ran back into the crowd. Not one Monterrey guard did squat until some fans in the stands grabbed the guy and held on to him until security showed up. Players chased the guy off the field, not security.

stat I just yanked in preparation for the Mexico/Venezuela game:
Mexico has won 11 consecutive games and is unbeaten in 21 consecutive games. Juan Carlos Osorio has not lost a game in his tenure as Mexico manager.
― pratt truss it (dan m), Sunday, 12 June 2016 16:15 (seven years ago) link
relevant to today's matches:
NOTE: If Brazil and Peru results in a scoreless draw and Ecuador wins 1-0, Brazil wins the group, but Peru and Ecuador are tied with +1 goal differential, 3 goals scored and are equal on head-to-head record with their 2-2 draw. In this scenario, the advancing team will be decided by a drawing of lots.

I do like how the Brazil and Paraguay coach firings have kind of laid to rest the "are these teams taking this seriously" questions

actually looking forward to the US match tomorrow. be nice if we didn't fuck it up
― Neanderthal, Thursday, 16 June 2016 02:00 (seven years ago) link
Yedlin's suspension is going to be an issue what with the Valencias running the wings. I'm expecting them to switch Johnson to the right and put in Castillo on the left. Enner has been huge for them throughout the tournament, he's leading in basically every offensive category.
― pratt truss it (dan m), Thursday, 16 June 2016 04:51 (seven years ago) link
yeah...I'm worried about it, too. part of me was all "oh just happy to be here" until Brazil was no longer our foe. now it's like, this is one we should win (not that "should" means anything with the US).
I'm still so surprised at John Brooks. wasn't that long ago that he was getting called out for his sloppy play in the Gold Cup. amazing what a solid club season (and some stability in lineups from Klinsman) can do.
