LSH is a big book spoiler that hasn't happened in the show yet (and may not happen at all).

The leader of those horsemen was in the brotherhood w/o banners in previous seasons. Thoros of Myr.

he was neither in previous seasons nor thoros of myr (paul kaye). he's supposedly lem lemoncloak

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 10 June 2016 12:55 (seven years ago) link

Yeah, indeed that was not Thoros of Myr.

I just learned that Podrick is not Gendry and feel like the series is ruined for me. I've been so worried for Podrick every time someone who might want to kill one of Robert Baratheon's bastard sons has been nearby. Bah.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Friday, 10 June 2016 13:49 (seven years ago) link

i had that confusion for a while too, my mental image of gendry is still just podrick

Haha that one is an understandable confusion as they are eerily similar looking, but in general this thread gets characters so confused I'm not sure how any of you can keep track of this show at all. It can be hard enough even when you can tell everyone apart.

Evan, Friday, 10 June 2016 13:54 (seven years ago) link

my mistake of thoros
gendry/podrick messes me up too

I honestly don't get this. I have never been confused about who is who and why they work for whomever on this show, and I'm half in the bag most Sunday evenings when we watch it.

El Tomboto, Friday, 10 June 2016 14:37 (seven years ago) link

I was trying to be sympathetic. I like looking up supplemental details about certain characters or locations (though I haven't gone as far as actually reading the books), so I'm not sure whether certain scenes would have confused me if I had not read up on the context outside of what the show explains.

Guys all the blonde people are Sean Bean and the dark haired ones are CLive Owen. This isn't difficult.

thought clive "king in the north" owen would be in it for longer tbh

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 10 June 2016 15:43 (seven years ago) link

seems like too much of a coincidence that gendry would set off in a boat east of westeros and then a few years later "euron" appears on a boat from the west.

Roberto Spiralli, Friday, 10 June 2016 15:50 (seven years ago) link

gendry also had a secretary named euron

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Friday, 10 June 2016 16:17 (seven years ago) link

Gnedry

End = Ned ...or so we thought (Euron = you're on)

"Ned, you're on"

Ned Stark is back

Evan, Friday, 10 June 2016 16:26 (seven years ago) link

Gendry was Chris from Skins so I've never had the Podrick confusion.

Another character hardly anyone remembers returns!

Blowout Coombes (President Keyes), Saturday, 11 June 2016 20:16 (seven years ago) link

I'd bet he makes another appearance as a vision, but having him actually return would be very silly.

Well with this guy I always did wonder what exactly happened in that fight. They can't really bring him back without some sort of horrible "I've been watching over u ALWAYS cause u're SPESHUL" scene though. So I'm kind of hoping they don't.

human and working on getting beer (longneck), Saturday, 11 June 2016 23:44 (seven years ago) link

Not really! It was always established that he was from Braavos, so it's not that farfetched he'd be there. The surprise would be merely that he's alive.

Evan, Sunday, 12 June 2016 13:13 (seven years ago) link

Hung with some regular folk neighbors (that is, casual TV watchers, not fanboys, though generally genre fans) and it was neat to hear the (not neat) categories they all fell into. One hasn't been watching the show at all, but brought up the fate of the "Wheel of Time" series as a concern. Another read all the GRRM books and is thus invested in seeing the show through, though he has some concerns, too, not least that it seems to have a long way to go despite not much show left. Another was sort of frustrated like me with how the show has backed itself into a corner; he was more annoyed by all the dangling subplots and secondary characters. Last week hung with another friend who is maybe more typical of the show's general fan base: not a genre fan, hasn't read the books, doesn't read the gossip or rumors, just enjoying the ride. She seems invested for the long run, but is sort of watching it like a mindless soap opera. Don't think she even knows there is a (as yet) finite number of episodes.

And like the show itself, as the story twists and turns toward its inevitable conclusion, all these factions will converge for one final battle!

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 12 June 2016 14:11 (seven years ago) link

"brought up the fate of the "Wheel of Time" series as a concern."

as in, GRRM will probably die before he finishes it?

remove butt (abanana), Sunday, 12 June 2016 15:30 (seven years ago) link

Do you think he has a duty to finish it? Is he doing something wrong if he just says 'fuck it'?

inside, skeletons are always inside, that's obvious. (dowd), Sunday, 12 June 2016 15:34 (seven years ago) link

xpost Yeah, I think that was his gist.

I'm sure we've talked about this here before, but obviously GRRM has no duty to do anything, and certainly if he dies, he'll have no regrets. But if he fails to finish the series it just seems like a missed opportunity, given he's been openly striving toward a alleged end-point. Definitely a fumbled opportunity if/when he lets the show lap his own series by a few years, though a fascinating experiment nonetheless having the adaptation precede the source material.

Josh in Chicago, Sunday, 12 June 2016 15:43 (seven years ago) link

I do think it's possible that he won't finish it. I doubt he's making much progress on book 6 right now, and I don't think he'll finish it in 7 books.

The idea of watching a couple of bloodbaths on this show tonight is making me nauseous.

It's in the episode trailer and the season trailer, so, yeah.

Man they trolled us Stoneheart truthers hard. Kinda have to admire the perverse dedication to setting up all the elements needed to introduce LSH into the story at this point and still not have her show up. Even more respect if they're

So Arya's arc proved to be...pointless? What did she learn that she didn't when she left Westeros? How is she a different person? Is she just slightly more ruthless and cunning now? Very irritating.

Did we really need another "Tyrion tries to make jokes" scene? Also lmao at the obvious budget skimping.

Ok, no more complaints. I actually enjoyed this ep mostly.

Rob Boss (latebloomer), Monday, 13 June 2016 03:13 (seven years ago) link

Oh sorry for the unfinished paragraph at the top there. This is what I meant to say:

Even more respect if this is a fake out and she actually does show up in episode 10
