Tom has announced that he is NOT ALLOWED TO COMPLAIN on Tuesday's show. It's going to be one for the ages, I think.

I was supposed to call in today, after bringing Dudio another smoked meat sandwich, but I was not home.

(they called me out on the last 30m of power hoping i'd bring another one to him at the montreal sketch fest!)

I thought the Tompressions were pretty delightful, although few of them really did impressions in the sense of trying to do the voice - it was mostly just copying his phrasing. I was really glad that Tom got enjoyment out of them and didn't get bummed out or mad.

Tom and Julie Klausner were on Hollywood Handbook this week and it was pretty nuts. At the end, Hayes Davenport does a short impression of Tom that works better as a true impression voice-wise than most of the callers.

Oh I also enjoyed Cory getting chewed out and gomped. Hi Cory.

I have one coworker who is a Best Show fan though we rarely talk about it. This morning he asked me if I got gomped a couple of weeks ago because there was a Nick from Chicago who called in.

That was one of the funniest episodes in a while. The Tompressions were great but that last call with the high school kid was amazing, especially the conclusion.

It's frustrating when a stand-out episode is so self-referential because you can't really recommend it to someone as a "start here" episode.

I don't even know how that's done in a general sense. I've reeled in a couple of people with selected Wurster calls but I've never convinced a single person to listen to an entire episode.

There are some good "best of" bits on youtube that have gone up in the last six months or so -- I've gotten some friends with long attention spans to give the show a try after hearing those, and they've stuck with it.

Hearing Tom crack up barely audibly, off-mic with his head probably under the desk, during the imitations is so much more fun to listen to than loud obnoxious on-mic hamming some LA podcasters are into.

Oh man, those moments when one or both of them is clearly struggling to maintain their composure are some of my favorite ever.

Particularly when Jon is all "hello?" when he knows Tom is engaged in an off-mic laughing fit.

I don't really try to get people to listen to it other than being enthusiastic about it in front of my friends. It took me a few episodes to get into the rhythm of the show myself and I only kept with it because a friend whose taste I respect was obsessed with the show. But I respect that it's not for everyone - it's a long show, the pace is slower than a lot of other modern entertainment, and Tom might be grating to some listeners.

The people who didn't give their names ("WAAH" and the Squarespace guy) were the best impressions. Very fun show.

I started listening to the show via Best Show Gems maybe 5/6 years ago, and then later moved on to the full show, which is a completely different beast. I have to say the first half hour of the show is still a slog to get through. I usually just skip to the first call. I can imagine people downloading/listening to the show to check it out but then turning it off before it even gets going.

While still hilarious, I'm finding a lot of Wurster's older 'awful people' characters less funny because what we might've once called exaggerated caricatures are now just Trump supporters.
